Dear Senator,
First and foremost, I look forward to soon abandoning "Senator" in favor of "Mr. President-Elect".
Now that it appears you are almost certain to be our next President, I want to thank you and apologize to you.
I apologize to you for believing, at the beginning of the primary season, that you would never be tough enough to compete against the barrage of negative lies and distortions that the republicans would throw at you. I supported another candidate because I was afraid you would "Gentleman" yourself into losing 40 states and America would be stuck with another dummy for 4 more years.
How wrong I was! I believe that you are the political equivalent of Muhammad Ali. My wife and I have watched in awe as you've floated like a butterfly. You haven't had to sting like a bee, because you've been able to get your opponents to sting themselves. You have run such a magnificent campaign that you've convinced me that you will be a great President. I so much look forward to having a leader who THINKS! I so much look forward to a President who RESPECTS! I so much look forward to a President who CARES.
I am so sorry that I ever doubted you and underestimated you. I will NEVER do either again. You have my faith and loyalty for one reason, and one reason only. YOU HAVE EARNED IT!
More importantly, I want to thank you.
Like many Americans I've been ashamed of the corruption and incompetence of the bush administration. However, More damaging than this I believe, is the way that the soon to be former president has diminished us as a people. My 8 year old son has learned that president is a synonym for "moron", because Mr.bush is the only example of a president he has ever known. He only knows Bill Clinton as a man who used to be President.
When I was a child, I learned what a President is by looking at Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy and (to a lesser extent because of Vietnam) Lyndon Johnson. When I was a child, I heard my mother and my friends' mothers frequently reproach us by saying "What would President Eisenhower (or Kennedy or Johnson) say if he saw you doing THAT?". I believe you can bring us back to that. I first thought this when my wife was correcting our son for a fight he'd had in school and she said "Is THAT what Martin Luther King would do? Is THAT what Barack Obama would do?".
You will take office 2 months before my son's 9th birthday. hopefully, you will leave office 2 months before his 17th birthday. I am very proud that I will be able to point to you and tell my son not only that you are what a President should be, but that you are what a MAN should be. You will serve at a very impressionable time for my son, and I have every confidence that you will do a wonderful and honorable job.
I am so proud of you. I believe you will bring a new definition to what a President is.
I am so proud of your wife. I believe she will honor our nation as a very elegant, intelligent, respectable and dignified First Lady.
I am so proud of your girls. I believe that yours will be one of the best First Families in History.
I promise to continue to do what my family has been doing since my wife and I married in 1997, and I have done since my early teens. I promise that I and my family will do our best to be the American family that deserves your example. I promise my wife and I will raise our son with a knowledge and acceptance of the duties of ACTIVE Citizenship. I promise that we will actively do all that we can legally do to prevent any future President from undoing what you do in your administration, as so many of us have failed to do with President Clinton. You have made me proud to be an American citizen again.
Good luck and God Bless You for the next 3 weeks, the next 4 (hopefully 8) years and beyond.
