Bush's speech = naughty child turning on cute factor

This may seem obvious, but I hadn't seen anyone really put it into words. I was thinking about why Bush's RNC speech is being percieved as such a success. Well, its like this.

Bush's speech was the equivalent to a child who has mis-behaved, is in trouble, and is attempting to get out of trouble by turning on the cute factor. He's saying "Yes, I'm dumb. Yes, I'm embarassing. Yes, I've screwed up. But look at me, America, look how adorable I am! How could you stay angry at me?"

To which the general public goes "Awwwwwww" and all is forgiven.

God, what a stupid country we live in.

but it is particularly galling when you think of Andy Card's statement that W thinks of the USA as a 10 year old child and he is the father . These people are nothing short of wierd .
