A house had two signs--a McCain one and a McCain/Palin. Both gone suddenly this week. Since the rest of the block has theirs I don't think it was due to a theft. ;)
I am embarrassed for McCain. I will admit I am partisan - completely so. But the debate tonight was painful to watch - I couldn't take any pleasure in it. This whole campaign has been so bad - so completely inept that I am honestly wondering if McCain isn't just throwing it to Obama on purpose. Possible motive: I said to myself that I would hate to be the white guy running against what could potentially be the first black president - a major moment in history - what a shitty legacy to have. But alas someone had to fill that role. And that task fell to McCain. Maybe he just stoically accepted it - I don't know. I know I'm probably just crazy for entertaining the thought - but really has this not been the worst campaign you have ever seen? You couldn't get the best comedy writers in Hollywood to construct a farce like this. Its either that explanation or I have to believe that McCain and his whole campaign staff are completely loony, incompetent, and clueless to a degree that is beyond measure.
If I were a Republican right now I would deny it. Not only would I take my signs down - I would sand blast the stickers off my bumper - I would tell all my friends that I was just joking about being a Republican - "Ha Ha wasn't that a funny joke - ah yeah - we can all laugh now - I'm off to the polls to vote for Obama - who I was for from the beginning... yeah I had you guys fooled - uh - you believe me right? C'mon I could never support anyone that stupid - heh..."
3. Somebody posted an interesting theory here last week.
That McCain is throwing the election to Obama in revenge for Bush/Rove smearing him with the "illegitimate black baby" story -- actually his adopted Asian daughter, back in 2000 and 2004.
I think it's a valid theory b/c they are vengeful, vindictive barsteds.
and if it were me I would never forgive Bush or any of the A-holes involved. Yet McCain is giving Bush that man loving hug (not that there is anything wrong with man love, okay - just pointing how strange it is) and he has the very people who orchestrated that ugly smear working for his campaign. Seems to counter the revenge theory a bit.
I'll tell you what though - whoever decides to write an insider tell-all book about this campaign has probably got an automatic best seller. I for one would line up to buy that book.
