McSame's sneering at the health of the woman...
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 01:04 AM by MarianJack
...is an even bigger gaffe than the media is stating. It is, IMHO, an even bigger gaffe than "that one".

The media and the pundits are, correctly, saying how damaging this idiotic statement was with the women's vote.

However, it is also very offensive to those men among us (like me) who are married to their best friend. I have so much love, respect, admiration and regard for my wife that I can hardly put it into words. I certainly don't ever want to live without her. When I say that I want to go before she does (when we're both in our 90s hopefully), she says "Thanks", because she doesn't want to live without me either.

We are adoptive parents. One of the reasons we went the adoption route was the likelihood of a high risk pregnancy if we conceived a baby. We have few regrets. We are the parents of a wonderful little boy. We couldn't imagine loving a child of our blood more than our child of choice.

I do feel very strongly that John McSame's callas indifference to the health of a woman and his dismissive and contemptuous dismissal of it as an extreme position will hurt him very badly among men who love their wives, girlfriends, fiances, sisters and mothers as much as I love my wife.

THIS is a family value? As Palin(comparison) would say (although I say it truthfully), "Thanks but no thanks!"

I'll happily read and respond to your responses in the morning. My ass is very tired and I'm taking it to bed. Good night &...

PEACE1

1. This will not go over well with most Americans, I predict.
Thank you for reminding me that men potentially have a lot at stake, as well. Women shouldn't have to fight for this by ourselves.

The level of his contempt: outrage goes beyond what McCain anticipated. It's one thing to be a young woman, worried that you may not have a choice whether to get an early abortion. What John McCain said tonight should strike fear in every woman of childbearing age, even the ones who are eager to have a baby. And their loved ones should be afraid for them, if they paid attention.

3. People who love their families...
...don't want their families to be damaged for an extremist's political gain any more than we want it to be done for the profit of a health insurance company.

Thanks for the response!

2. When McCain finished his rant,
my girlfriend said, "He just lost."

She's the smartest person I know and I feel about her how you feel about your wife.

The women of this country should riot if he wins.

I think your girlfriend is right.

Previously, I was hopong for a 6-8% popular vote margin and about 325 electoral votes. NOW, I'm hoping that McSame/Palin(comparison) lose VERY badly.

PEACE!

MCCAIN: Just again, the example of the eloquence of Sen. Obama. He's health for the mother. You know, that's been stretched by the pro-abortion movement in America to mean almost anything. That's the extreme pro-abortion position, quote, "health."

but that's really him making the air-quotes as he mocks the very idea that a woman's health could ever be in danger from pregnancy.

12. Thought of my daughter...RANT COMING
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 06:45 AM by cjsmom44
Last night when I heard McCain sarcastically "DISSED" women in the form of mocking women's health...steam poured out my ears...I was furious, as I suspect many women across this nation were.
I thought of my daughter and her daughters and thought My God what century does this man belong to?
I thought of my Grandmother....the suffragettes...who won the right to vote
My Grandmother born in 1897...who graduated from high school in 1917...yes a woman graduating further than the 8th grade....who went on to become a partial owner of a major business. A working married mother of 2... in the 1920's Trailblazers...
She gave me choice...I am forever grateful to the women who fought so valiantly for women's right to choose...HOW DARE HE MOCK WOMEN AND WOMENS HEALTH... :grr:

BTW, You daughter certainly comes from a great bloodline!

15. My "health" is important to not only my husband but to my son and
parents, brother, aunts and uncles, grandparents and cousins as well as people who are not even related to me. John McCain believing my "health" can be reduced to a (overused - barf inducing - Say Anything - cutsie) air quote is disgusting.

But let's step back and look at who used those air quotes to describe a mother's health....his callous treatment of his first wife....his behavior toward his second wife....his use of a woman as a prop in his campaign....and now the "quotes".

John McCain hates women. Why should he care about women's health????

Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 08:16 AM by Ian_rd
Damn he screwed up. A similar failure was his epic misfire after Barack Obama shot down McCain's criticism that "Joe the Plumber" would pay more under Obama's plan. McCain then pulled the "congratulations, Joe, you're rich" gimmick which was rife with the tone: "OK, nevermind the middle class, let's talk about the rich instead."

I expect small business owners and women were disconcerted at the least with these two moments.

23. I had a friend who was a breast cancer survivor.
Despite taking precautions to prevent it, she unexpectedly became pregnant. Her oncologist told her pretty firmly that the pregnancy was dangerous to her (history of hormone-fed cancer, and it would also mean she'd have to stop taking a medication she was on) and that she should terminate. She already had three children who needed their mother.

In McCain's world, she would have had to carry that pregnancy to term, virtually guaranteeing that neither she nor the baby would make it and depriving her husband and children of additional years with her.

30. McCain the Misogynist
like he would ever discuss a man's issue, and put the word "health" in quotes as an insult to men?

I don't think so. Women are objects to him - he brags about it in his books and words in the way he describes only "his" uses for women; in what he did to his old wife and now his new wife, "Cindy the C**t"; and so many other examples. Palin is another.

33. I agree. Sneering and waving quote marks-- the "health" of the woman
And then using the volatile words-- "those pro-abortion extremists stretch that definition of what is woman's (quotes gesture) health." He emphasized the word stretch, in an angry, disgusted manner.

Angry and disgusted by allowing abortion in cases of a threat to the woman's health ! That was really an intense moment.

That just capped off the whole mood of hostility that permeated all of McLiar's ugly remarks the whole evening.

I was glad to see Barack talk about what a difficult decision it was for everyone, and affirm his support of Roe v. Wade, while also talking about the need to reduce unwanted pregnancies.
