Has Kerry been making sports gaffes?
There are claims that Kerry mistakenly expressed support for the Buckeyes in Michigan, referred to Lambert field in Green Bay, and said the Red Sox were 2 games out at a time they were 3 games out. There are some other claims, too. I don't think it's a big deal, but it's the kind of crap the right-wing bandies about on sports sites. Any info? Any links? Thanks.

3. I'm not sure pedantic, but obnoxious yes
I was just curious. If they are lying, I like to call them on it. It's always fun and generally easy to accuse Bush supporters of lying.

2. I just don't care.
Furthermore, any frothing, Belly-Aching Right-Wing Parrot that brings it up can count on me getting in their face.

My god. What has this place become?

4. Omigod, Omigod!
This'll cost him votes bigtime. This is the Dukakis Moment. Wait'll Rush gets hold of it. He's dead now.

5. Better to skip sports talk, IMO -- do voters really expect candidates...

to be able to talk about home-team sports when they come to campaign?

On edit: Onlooker, I see nothing wrong with your question (you made clear you didn't think the campaign hinged on it), and I'm sorry it was met with such derision.

6. He needs to stay away from baseball talk
Obviously he doesn't follow baseball which is fine, but then don't talk about it.

On his midnight speech, the first thing he said was the Red Sox were 2.5 games out which was wrong. They were 3.5 games out. Who cares? but if you don't know, then send someone to find out, or don't talk about it.

He said Eddie Yost was his favorite Red Sox growing up. Fine - Yost was a fine ballplayer, who had a long career. He never played for the Red Sox. He played almost his entire career with the Senators in Washington.

He mentioned how well Manny Ortiz was playing this year. That seems to be a cross between first baseman David Ortiz and outfielder Manny Ramirez. Again, who cares, but if you don't follow a sport, just don't act like you do.

I don't know anything about the football stuff. I'm sort of a baseball nut so the baseball stuff makes me wince.

Also a baseball nut? Check out www.whatifsports.com

7. sounds like a rove plant story, especially the buckeyes one
getting the number of games out wrong, or getting the name of a stadium slightly wrong is one thing (ok, two things).

but thinking michigan like ohio state is a way too implausible.
