32. "2 weeks!" Yeah, like a plumber is going to generate sympathy.
Anyone who's ever hired a plumber and seen thier bill is going to say "F*ck you, Joe!"

So is Larry going to enlighten him on gross vs net income
Even if he's a master plumber making the big bucks, no way can he afford to buy a business with that net, not if he's an hourly worker.

25. Indeed.
Businessmen who NET $250,000 are not talking about the difficulty of buying a new truck. They are thinking about adding a fleet, because they are making gross revenues in the millions.

He's already changing his story, because he's by now been enlightened that he was confused about net profit.

Interesting how other people like that don't get so much play in the media, yet this Joe guy is able to? Doesn't quite pass the smell test.

6. On the plus side, if "Joe" is a plant...
I don't know too many people in my neck of the woods (Michigan) who are gonna give a rat's a$$ about someone pulling down $280K a year complaining about his lot in life, especially when he bought hook, line and sinker the McCain campaign falsehoods about Obama's tax plan (which Barack refuted nicely). I am serious.

I say bring "Joe the Plumber" on. Dipsticks. The GOP deserve the backlash.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but my husband (not super-political) was "WTF?" on all that in the debate. "Who cares about Joe the Plumber?! What about the rest of us?" (His words, and though we are doing okay, it certainly struck him as pandering. He saw right through it.)

And he admits he doesn't even make $250K, and won't have his taxes raised.

I think it may actually help Obama if they ask him details
I'm just guessing, but based on the original video of Obama talking to him he said the company he wanted to buy "makes about $250,000-$280,000 a year". I think he was talking about gross revenue and not profit and that he and Obama misunderstood each other on that. If it was gross revenue then he'd get no increase at all because profit would have been much, much less.

If he can't afford another $800 in taxes, he can't afford to buy a business making that net. No way.

31. Yep, let him go on the shows.....opposite of someone who knows what they're talking about.
I highly doubt that Joe the Plumber makes $250,000 and can't afford to pay his taxes. I also doubt that a business is going to be taxed the same as individual income.

19. It's just that same old bad McCain vetting process
Joe is looking at buying a company that "makes $250K, maybe $280K"

That's GROSS REVENUE, not NET PROFIT

Poor Joe.

I feel kind of bad for him now, and unfortunately Obama didn't catch that the guy was talking revenue, and was confused/misinformed.

To purchase a business NETTING $250K, he'd need huge bucks.

24. He seemed awfully confident and like it was
a "gotcha" question when he asked Obama. I thought he was just some cocky repug who listens to too much right-wing radio that wanted to go toe-to-toe with the man himself. That's how he came off to me the other day when I saw the clip of their conversation.

here: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/10/spread-the-weal.html

So, I don't know if he was an intentional plant, or just some right-wingnut, but it seems like he was going to support Republicans, no matter what, even if they had George Bush running again.
