Using one of the aforementioned defeated Presidential candidates as a yard stick, which one's performance do you think McCain will be standing closest to if - as seems likely at this stage - he does indeed lose in November?

3. I vote McDull
The electoral college might not break identically, but the feel of the race is much like McDull.

5. Dole

Gore won but was cheated out of victory. Kerry lost because he leaned to far right and also the media hated him. Dukakis had a 15 point lead going but ran an incredibly inept campaign and so lost. Mondale just sucked. Goldwater was Goldwater. And McGovern was a hippy, and Nixon made sure everyone knew.

7. McGoldwater
He'll pull fewer EV's than Dole or Dukakis, but not as few as Mondale.

8. Can we stop insulting Gore and Kerry aka Obama's top surrogate?
Obama himself would resent these potshots directed a two good men.

9. No potshots, I must clarify that.

McGore is simply the "win popular vote, lose / get robbed in the electoral college" option and McKerry is the "three percent defeat" option. McCain has displayed signs of trying to move himself closer to a 'McKerry' scenario by pre-emptively blaming negative campaigning on his opponent's part for his sagging numbers, which is an entirely untruthful and classless move, because as we all know, John Kerry was genuinely undone by despicable lies and the media's failure to call the Bush campaign out on them or indeed carry many of Kerry's responses to said untruths. Yet McCain has already complained more than he ever did!

So really, I just want to make clear that Gore and, even more so, John Kerry are people I admire.
