I don't care if you're a plumber, a chiropractor or a chimney-sweep...
If you have more than $250,000 annual taxable NET PROFIT in your pocket, after salaries, rent, equipment, utilities, local taxes, insurance, advertising, fuel, health-care, permits, interest and depreciation then

you are doing very, very well.

Period.

2. Absolutely. I was taken aback when McCain said
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 10:33 PM by Occam Bandage
that upping taxes on people taking home over $250,000 per year would keep them from living the American Dream. I mean, Jesus, I'd be thrilled with half of that. I'd be happy with a quarter of that (but then again I'm just an impoverished student, so what do I know?)

6. Some folks who don't run a small business don't seem to get how much that really is

3. I'd be happy to pay the 2% increase in rates
for that $220,000 raise.

4. Joe doesn't know the difference between gross profit
and net profit. That is so obvious, and I think Obama missed a catch there. There's a big difference between REVENUE and NET PROFIT, which is the amount a sole-proprietor pays their taxes on.

This worries me about Joe, and makes me think that Joe ought to get some good advice before buying that business.

Let's hope Joe is sharp enough to figure that out, and maybe then he'll see that he's in the vast majority of small business owners, like me, who will never see a $250K net, no matter how hard we work, that is unless we are highly paid consultants, lobbyists, or lawyers.

Joe the lobbyist. That's who needs to worry about the $250K milestone.

8. And what's Joe's Obama tax? Is it even $800???
An additional 2% only on the amount OVER 250K... so if Joe the plumber NETS $330,000 pure profit Obama costs him an extra $800.

The guy is either ignorant, a liar or the stingiest man alive.

"I'm worried about the waitress over there making $7 an hour..."

to which Joe replied,

"Well, yeah."

13. You need to add one more thing to that.
You are doing very, very well.

And:

The less the middle-class has to pay in taxes, the more they have to spend. This means more profit for you.
