McCain’s most out of touch statement of the evening
McCain’s most out of touch statement of the evening for me was his claim that Sarah Palin, with her four month old child with Downs Syndrome, knows more about special needs than anyone else he knows. My 12 year old daughter is autistic and I can tell you, at four months I knew next to nothing about the joys and heartbreak of raising a child with a disability.

At four months these kids are much like typical babies --- sweet, full of hope, and we related to them the same way relate to every other child we know. Ask parents of adults and teenagers with down syndrome or autism about what they know --- it is a different world.

1. Agreed!!! She has her toe in the water and has no idea what she has
coming - the joys, the heartache. If she did, she would step behind her reckless ambition and stay in Alaska!

2. I'm sure Sarah Palin knew nothing about special needs kids
before she gave birth to her own. Suddenly she's an expert? I doubt it.

3. Well, she IS the foremost expert on energy issues, so it only stands
to reason she's the world's foremost expert on autism too!

4. Agreed also. Was thinking that when McCain made the statement.
Just like McCain is an expert at everything when he claims he knows better than anyone else.

6. I was thinking the exact same thing. She knows HOW????
and you are right, my best friend has a disabled son, I remember at 9 months talking about it with her and trying to figure out what it could be as the doctors thought she was nuts. (He'd had a stoke in utero (sp))
