Health of the mother? Bah! Who cares!!
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 09:57 PM by sparosnare
Fatal mistake by McCain on that one. Fatal. I can't help but think Obama baited him into it; he went in depth first and McCain followed.

Mocking the health of a mother as an exception for abortion will not play well with the ladies.

1. I've always wondered, does this mean that a woman would be forced to continue an ectopic pregnancy
until it ruptures and she bleeds to death?

19. it won't play well with ANYONE (except male neanderthals)
His disregarding women's health issues particularly in medically tragic circumstances won't just be an issue for women... men will hate this just as much. Men have daughters, mothers, wives, girlfriends, and friends and co-workers and neighbors, family, etc. who are women they care about and would certainly be disgusted by such cavalier dismissal of their health.

You're absolutely right, though, that this was a complete epic fail for McCain... he might as well just drop out right now after that utterly disgusting remark. What is so amazing is that he is thoroughly CLUELESS how jaw-dropping repulsive his comment was... how can he have lived all this time on the same planet as the rest of us and not even realize the audacity of saying such a thing out loud much less think it? You really have to give Obama and the mod mad props for not falling out of their seats with that astounding McCain brainfart.

20. Oh yes, this could kill his campaign...
but only if its spread far and wide. Most Americans are Pro-Choice, and even most of those on the Anti-Choice side of the issue make exceptions for the health and life of the woman. Its only the radical extremists Anti-Choicers who are against that, and they make up a small minority in this country, and McCain lost a lot trying to appeal to those extremists.

21. Hell, I had to have a C section so I wouldn't die from a too small pelvis.
Would he ban C-sections for healthy pregnancies as well?

These male troglodytes think that pregnancy and childbirth are a simple walk in the park, not a major health hazard in many cases.

Ron Paul has been an OB-Gyn for over 30 years and he says he's never seen a life threatening pregnancy. He is lying. That is statistically impossible. He MUST have seen a number of women with tubal (ectopic) pregnancies, which invariably will kill the mother if they are allowed to continue, burst the Fallopian tube and kill the mother from abdominal infection.

22. This hit home with me because I've been there.
It's a long story, but I ended up at Planned Parenthood when I was over 5 months pregnant because my doctors (who were Catholic) refused to acknowledge that something was wrong with my pregnancy. I have no doubt that it was because they knew that they needed to do an abortion and didn't want to.

The baby was clearly dead and I was bleeding. They said I had my period. When I doubled over in pain and could not stand up anymore a friend of mine said she had had enough of this crap and took me to Planned Parenthood. The doctor sarcastically asked if my doctors didn't know that you don't get your period when you're 5 months pregnant.

It was not legal for Planned Parenthood to do the abortion there because I was too far along, but the doctor did it anyway because she said that my doctors would wait until I was dying before they would do it. This is because these particular doctors, who she knew, didn't believe in aborting for the sake of the "health of the mother." She said I would not have made it if they let me get to that point.

I spent the next 2 weeks in the hospital with peritonitis that resulted because these misogynistic pigs decided to play Russian roulette with my life. So John McCain can take his air quotes and stuff them up his misogynistic ass.

The ironic part is that the baby died in the 1st place because the doctor had refused to remove the IUD (Copper 7) which ended up perforating the umbilical sac. He didn't want to remove it because it might abort the baby.
