1. No, I think he meant autism. There are fewer births of Downs' babies now,
since most people elect for abortions.

2. He mentioned that rates of autism were going up. I don't know if
he was confused about the nature of Trig's disability.

3. I think it was just stream of consciousness - but I don't think she's done a THING for autism
or other special needs kids.

4. What does he care?
The point is the kid's "retarded" some way or other, and he's a swell guy for not holding it against her...

5. McCain meant Down's
but Obama talked about autism and the importance of research. Obama just won the DAN (Defeat Autism Now) vote.

7. There are obviously lots of families in America with a child with Autism. Palin
has the D Syndrome vote locked up. Smart of him to add another specific group to the mix rather than just talking about children in need in general.

10. I think he confused the syndromes. It would have been more
effective if he did say Down's, since he was talking about Palin, but he gave it to Obama who clearly used McCain's spending freeze against him. My youngest sister is autistic so I was taken aback when McCain said autism instead of his campaigns favorite blanket "special needs" mantra.

11. He screwed up. He kept saying how Palin knew more about Autism than
anyone. Why the hell would she be an autism specialist. McCain just plain ol' screwed up.

And Palin isn't an expert on anything.
