Dean and Kerry in IowaWith the dropping of an e-mail announcing another politico coming to Iowa, I got deja vu. It feels like much of 2003 or January 2004, prior to the Iowa caucuses. Tomorrow, two guys who drew a lot a headlines in the prior presidential election cycle will be here to weigh in on the current one — that’s right, Howard Dean and John Kerry will be the Hawkeye State.
Kerry, who became the party nominee after former frontrunner Dean crashed and burned in the Iowa caucus, will come to advocate for the Barack Obama presidency. He’ll help open Obama’s 50th office in Iowa in Waterloo, journey to speak with veterans in Marshalltown, then make appearances in Ames, Des Moines and Waukee. Makes me think of when Kerry visited a VFW in Sioux City.
Dean, meanwhile, is appearing on behalf of the Iowa Democratic Party to encourage young people to vote, which will take him to schools and universities in Clinton and Davenport (St. Ambrose) tomorrow and Cedar Falls (University of Northern Iowa) and Cedar Rapids (Kirkwood Community College) on Thursday. Like when Grammy-winning singer Carole King came to Iowa on the weekend, Dean will encourage Iowans to use absentee voting to cast ballots early.
Howard Dean was in NH on Monday, visiting the universities there. Here's a neat blog on his Dartmouth visit:
