RW consultant sees armageddon for Republicans in focus group: "The Seventh Seal is broken"
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 11:47 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Voting for Obama anyway

I just got an astounding email from a Republican consultant I know well. He's a guy who's always thought Obama had a "glass jaw," and was always among those agitating for hitting Obama harder.

Recently, he conducted a focus group in an upper-Midwestern state, showing them the kind of ad he thought would work: A no-hold-bars attack , cut for an independent group, which hasn't aired.

I'm just going to reprint his amazed email about the focus group:
Reagan Dems and Independents. Call them blue-collar plus. Slightly more Target than Walmart.

Yes, the spot worked. Yes, they believed the charges against Obama. Yes, they actually think he's too liberal, consorts with bad people and WON'T BE A GOOD PRESIDENT...but they STILL don't give a fuck. They said right out, "He won't do anything better than McCain" but they're STILL voting for Obama.

The two most unreal moments of my professional life of watching focus groups:

54 year-old white male, voted Kerry '04, Bush '00, Dole '96, hunter, Nascar fan...hard for Obama said: "I'm gonna hate him the minute I vote for him. He's gonna be a bad president. But I won't ever vote for another god-damn Republican. I want the government to take over all of Wall Street and bankers and the car companies and Wal-Mart run this county like we used to when Reagan was President."

The next was a woman, late 50s, Democrat but strongly pro-life. Loved B. and H. Clinton, loved Bush in 2000. "Well, I don't know much about this terrorist group Barack used to be in with that Weather guy but I'm sick of paying for health insurance at work and that's why I'm supporting Barack."

I felt like I was taking crazy pills. I sat on the other side of the glass and realized...this really is the Apocalypse. The Seventh Seal is broken and its time for eight years of pure, delicious crazy....

1. Now you motherfuckers know what it was like for us
to watch perfectly reasonable people voting for Dumbass in 2000 and 2004.

No sympathy.

2. It's all about the money, honey. Take it away and all bets are off.
Plus, people are finally realizing that the Republicans have royally screwed the entire country.

People are stupid. But they're not deaf, dumb and blind.

3. 'Loved B and H Clinton, loved Bush in 2000' - this does not
compute. Seems like the participants in this focus group do not vote based on ideology or party loyalty, but rather on whatever emotions take hold of them at the time.

5. For a lot of people, the race is just a popularity contest. And
they vote for who is most likeable.

Of course this time around, that's Obama.

8. You're right -- it is emotion
I would dispute the idea, though, that the vote doesn't compute.

Remember, Bush marketed himself as a slightly right-of-center moderate. People thought he was going to be like a younger version of his dad -- not Warren G Harding redux.

Even if that were a true statement - and it isn't - it definitely IS true to say that he would do EVERYTHING better than Dominionazi Witchdoctor-annointed wolf murdering dumber than Chimpy Palin. :scared:

10. I think the real translation is "something's got to change"
I've talked to a few friends that I'm (frankly) surprised are voting for Obama. I've heard 2 common factors:

1) McSame will just be 4 more years like the last 8
2) McSame looks like a tired, old man

Even if Obama sits on his thumbs for 4 years he'll still look like FDR.

15. Live by the sword. Die by the sword.
These bastards were about to manipulate theses ignorant motherfuckers for 30 years. The only way the GOP won elections was by brainwashing the stupidest people among us.

And now this guy is crying because they aren't thinking logically?

Listen to me, man. They NEVER thought logically. It they did, the GOP would never have won an election in the past 30 years and you would be running a carwash instead of drawing 6 figures trying to figure how to shove more trash into their tiny little brains.

18. 's a limit to which Repubs can abuse the Citizens and still convince them Repubs are best
People realize that they have been horribly abused by the Corrupt Republicans in charge, and they are ready for 'a change' --even if that means voting Democratic for the first time in their lives.

McCain sealed the deal when he chose an unvetted social conservative VP with no qualification whatsoever to run this country if called upon to do so.

What I read here is Republican Party members are ready for a complete makeover of their party. And a wipeout election will help bring that about the quickest.

23. In fairness...
In most of the country people get their news from Fox and RW talk radio. Period. And everyone they know spouts the same talking points. So some of these clods get points for accepting the propaganda, yet somehow ending up with the right decision anyway.

It's easy for me to vote for Obama. But for these folks it's an accomplishment.
