Anybody else get a 2006 vibe about the '08 presidential race?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 12:58 AM by RMP2008
I'm thinking that it's looking a lot like '06 for us. Massive leads in the polls, base motivated, anger at the republicans, desire for change.

It's starting to feel a lot like it. And it feels good. Seeing Nancy take over and Harry win his majority was sweet indeed in 2006. Want something even sweeter, i.e., an Obama win this time.

1. Naw, not really. There's a big difference now. Millions of people
have been directly & personally affected by this economic disaster, and most of them recognize it was caused by the "trickle down theory" failure! When people are personally affected by adverse thongs, they fight you!

4. This will be better than 2006
Democrats have registered at least 4 million voters since 2006. The GOP has lost about 300k.

http://pewresearch.org/pubs/773/fewer-voters-identify-as-republicans

More people are identifying as democratic vs GOP since 2006. In 2006 it was a 7 pt margin for the democratic party. In 2008 it is a 14 point margin.

The senate in 2006 has 14 GOP seats up. This election has 23 GOP seats up. 538 shows the democratic party winning 8 of them, for a 59 seat majority. Obama's coattails and groundgame could give us 60.

Plus in 2008 the democratic party has the financial advantage.

8. Oh I love me some Barbara Boxer. Or Patrick Leahy. Or even Hillary.
Harry is just so.........Harry.

We could also use a more kick-ass Speaker of the House.

11. I'm starting to feel good. We still have 3 weeks left but McTroll/Haterina are such a disaster
and Obama/Biden have been so crisp that I'm starting to feel good. The polls are on our side, the mood of the country is on our side, history is on our side. I'm going to keep donating and will make some phone calls and hope other DUers continue to keep up the fight. We cannot get comfy but we should feel good. Obama is our man, we are taking the country back!
