Why do you think the Republican pundits and Fox news are trying hard to denigrate the value of these recent polls? Because they expect the effect to be short lived, and want to guard against a media story of "Kerry bounces back" and "Kerry has momentum." In other words, they are trying to manage expectations.
Instead of freaking about these polls, look at them as an opportunity. Kerry can be cast as an underdog, and when the polls start bouncing, it reflects well on Kerry's character that he never let the polls defeat him -- he handled adversity with strength, grace and optimism, three traits that Americans value. Well, except for grace.
Anyway, it's all about the story, that's what the media are always looking for. We can help that be the story. Or not.
I now return you to your usual pessimism, finger pointing, and calls for fire and brimstone.
