CNN give McCain a platform to callout Lewis
(CNN) -- Sen. John McCain said Monday that Rep. John Lewis' controversial remarks were "so disturbing" that they "stopped me in my tracks."

Sen. John McCain says comments made by Rep. John Lewis were "unacceptable."

Lewis, a Georgia representative and veteran of the civil rights movement, on Saturday compared the feeling at recent Republican rallies to those of segregationist George Wallace.

"That's not from some, quote, party official, that's from one of the most respected people in America. It's unfair. It's unfair and it's outrageous," he said in an exclusive interview with CNN's Dana Bash.

"I never believed that John Lewis, who is an American hero whom I admire, would ever make a comment of that nature. He even referred to the bombing of a church in Birmingham. That's unacceptable," he said.

Lewis on Saturday said in a statement that McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin "are sowing the seeds of hatred and division."

"During another period, in the not too distant past, there was a governor of the state of Alabama named George Wallace who also became a presidential candidate. George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama," wrote the Democrat.

1. Fuck John McCain's self-righteous, sanctimonious outrage.
I expect this will come up in Wednesday's debate, and you know what? I welcome it.

2. McPanic has been calling Obama a muslim terrorist or encouraging that line of thinking.
McCain is an asshole who is desperately grasping at straws as he and all of his white, racist party sink to what is surely to be an all-time low in their popularity numbers.

Americans are sick and TIRED of race baiting.. whether it be in politics or just some average asshole joe down at the bar. Americans are standing up and fighting the fuck back.

NO ONE owes McCain an apology after all the wild accusations he has been throwing at Obama in the last few weeks. McCain should STFU and eat the mud he's been slinging.

no "gotcha politics" my ass!!!

4. Lots of us think Lewis' comments were not unfair.
I remember, as a little girl, seeing the seething hatred in the Wallace crowds' faces. It was scary.

And McSame Failin are stirring up those same sentiments.

How dare he repudiate the words of the guy he did say he respected as an adviser.

How much nobler could he have been by saying he'd asked his campaign and running mate to tone things down and run on the issues and not the fake culture war.

But he can't win on the issues so he tossed Lewis and his own honor out the window again.

Wasn't that intense-- one day of McSame telling the lady Obama was a nice guy -- then right back to hate on parade.

Yet the TV pundits will talk as though that one day was a whole noble change of direction.

Just as they pretend that grotesque smears and inconvenient truths are equal examples of "negative campaigning." Fact = Smear in their book. Luckily, the public knows the difference.
