As soon as he takes office, Obama should give a presentation
to the American people. He should have his staff compile exactly where the worst situations are, who has done what to royally mess things up and tell America that he will start immediately to rectify what has been done.

He needs to preempt the repub BS right off the bat. Tell the world what is wrong now, how royally they messed up so that we know he and the rest of his staff are working for solutions. Don't give the rethugs an inch of "I told you so" space.

I would rather suffer knowing what is wrong rather than sit wondering what anyone is doing about it.
I want to know that this man, to whom I have given my allegiance, has put together a staff of competent men and women who recognize what is wrong and know how to make it right.

I am tired of not knowing what my government is doing. Tired of turning on TV and seeing Senate and House speeches to a empty audience. I wonder how many of them really work to our good. I want to see a full Senate, a full House.

Since I have lost so much of what I worked for all my life, I want to be able to hope that the next President will tell me that he is going to straighten out what has been done behind closed doors these last 8 years. I no longer believe government works for us. I believe it works for itself. We need to get back to the "of, by, for" approach. No more secrecy, no more enrichment at the expense of most of our citizens.

In the last 3 months, first I lost my husband, then I lost my job, now I've lost 40% of what we had put into a little stock for the future. I am sick of all the BS. I want to know how things are going to get fixed. Pass the blame to those who did this to us. Now tell us what you are going to do.
I need to see this mess cleaned up before I lose everything. So do the rest of us.

1. kinda like a "fireside powerpoint"? sounds good to me
I think that an Obama Presidency will be a new day for Presidential Politics going forward. He will have a nearly unprecedented opportunity to take things forward with tons of political capital.

3. I agree with you
I honestly believe things are even much worse than what we have been presented with. The Economy is crap but I think the state of government organizations are in much worse financial chaos then we even know. I agree Obama should lay out all of the facts in front of the American people so Americans understand what the Republican led Congress and * did while they controlled WA for all of those years.

I hope things are getting better for you!:grouphug:

5. Yes yes yes. The truth you know is ALWAYS better than the one you don't.
I have no source for this except my memory. But several weeks ago Obama said that for the serious situations and crises that are sure to arise, he would be open to holding summit meetings and air them live on C-SPAN. The meetings would include leaders and experts in the field. The phones would be open to ordinary citizens who would be welcome to ask questions or offer suggestions. It seems to me that Obama's philosophy has always been that together we can solve anything. I really believe he would be willing to try such a bold experiment.

(President Carter tried a similar tactic, but it was awkward. I don't believe Obama's would be.)

6. I agree. I was speaking to an Independent voter on Saturday
that truly believe that both parties are the same, corrupt and are both in this mess equally because they (both parties) have wanted to screw the middle class on purpose. I tried to tell him he was wrong in a nice way, then he fired back saying, "oh yeah, i am wrong, what about Bill Clinton, he could have done something to stop NAFTA and didn't" "he gladly signed for it", " he is a scumbag", he also gave a shot at Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2. He doesn't like any of them.. BUT
He is for voting for Obama. - He didn't vote for Bush in the last two elections. -

He said to me (he knew i am an Obama volunteer), look, I am voting for Obama, I will give him two years to do something (not to clear completely this mess) but to speak and lay out his plans and complete at least ONE.. He also said, he would want to see that in his first six months take the microphone and speak DIRECTLY TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. and say, "look we are in a deep shit CAUSED by so and so and so" and "these are steps we need to take to FIX IT" " i will need your support" .. and so forth..

He said, if Barack Obama DOES THIS, he will have my full support, respect and i will fight for him if he asks the american people to fight.

So, in overall, The american people is looking for leadership, honesty. They know we are in a big doodle, they are looking for someone to speak truthfully.

To close, the guy i was speaking to say, Bush and the neocons have fucked our planet (meaning, the people.
But he also spoke bad on Pelosi and all democrats in congress...

The guy is truly an independent who has lost faith in our government, but is giving Obama a chance.

So, I agree with you. Obama must do this. He must speak to the American People.

7. I'd like to seem him apologize to the world for America's behavior over the past 8 years.

But it won't happen. There is no way he will get involved in political accusations. His opening speech will be about working together to solve our problems, and a little about what needs to be done immediately regarding the economy (he'll have had over 2 months to work on it). He's not going to want to make anyone, even republicans, angry from day one, even though they deserve it for all the hell they have put us through.

Edit: Oh, and I look forward to Helen Thomas getting back her front row seat at the first press conference. (Brokaw will downplay it - brush it off like a lint on his suit jacket).
