Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 10:18 PM by greenbriar
Friday, we had a teacher work day...no students so we could jam or have the TV on or what ever we wanted while we were doing grades and cleaning our rooms

she looked at me and said

"I don't like the Dixie Chicks"

I didn't really feel like arguing so I just said, Well I do and it is my classroom

she again said

"I don't like them"

I just ignored her and she replaced the speakers...

What a dumb heffer... like she wanted me to turn them off because she didn't like them?

I should have said

"Why, because they spoke the truth long before most people recognized it?

ALL of it, including Dixie Chicks.

And nobody on the planet is more liberal than I am.

9. I'm with you
I like a few of their songs - but overall not so much and that goes for all country music. Did the tech say anything to make you think her dislike had anything to do with politics? And why is this thread in General Discussion Presidential?

7. My sister told me today...
that last week while she was watching the debate with family, the freakin' Comcast guy installing her new phone started making comments in response to the comments my sister and her son were making while watching, and began arguing right wing talking points with her! She finally told him he needed to back up his statements with facts, and that was the difference between us 'libruls' and conservatives. After he continued arguing with her, she ended up escorting him to the door and throwing him out, LOL. My sister then called his boss to complain. Can you believe that?

Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 10:36 PM by FightingIrish
He had resolved the problem at the hub site but came to my house just to make sure everything was working. When he opened my web browser, the first thing he saw was my home page, DU. He said, "Democratic Underground? I'm a Republican". My wife, who never holds back, started in on all the problems a certain Republican president had brought to our lives. He agreed but said he was going with McCain. He said he was ex military with two sons in the armed forces, one in Afghanistan. I told him I had served in Vietnam and was not at all impressed with McCain. He was unaware of McCain's horrible record on veterans' issues. He admitted that he had heard that McCain was a hot head. We had a nice visit on a number of topics. I'm not sure Obama picked up a vote, but at least one Republican had a friendly, rational exchange with two very committed Obama supporters.

13. You might have subtly put on other music.
Like, if they let you listen to Internet radio, maybe Dementiaradio.org. You might have been lucky enough to have their daytime random cast play that song "(I'm Thinkin' 'Bout) Nailin' Sarah Palin." Just to see if she would laugh.

31. I see a lot of responses criticising Greenbriar
for her response to the tech.

I applaud Greenbriar for her response because for too long the Repugs have felt that they can trash outspoken groups like the Dixie Chicks, Gays, Women anyone that doesn't agree with them. For too long we as a collective have always implemented proper manners, don't engage with them, be nice to them, treat them as we would want to be treated. That has gotten us no where....perhaps a kick in the teeth.

If Obama played that game he would not be ahead in the polls and he would not be on the verge of winning the Presidency.

Now it is possible the tech doesn't like the Dixie Chicks because she doesn't like country music and she could have said that, but it doesn't appear that's what she said. Unless she is a friend of Greenbriar it wasn't her place to comment on what was playing. The Tech is the one that set up the situation....

When they look at you stare them back in the eye...they usually turn away (cowards)

When they start talking shit to you...talk shit right back to them (of course with facts)

But never, ever take the submissive role...we have let them do this to us for 8 years - I don't know about you but I am done with the jackbooted thugs and their ignorance.
