but I was a bit taken aback today when whatsisface on MSNBC asked whether using that expression was racist - because of the word "whip" and the association with slavery.

I meant, damn, that is a stretch! McCain was using a common expression. Is every time somebody says their football team whipped the other one racist?

They are really getting desperate to stir up something, aren't they?
