Everyone is watching now. For once the MSM journalists kind of did their jobs. Even the guy with the monkey doll knew right away that he had messed up when he saw the cameras on him. The week began on a disgusting note, but I feel slightly relieved that the hatemongers have been shut down--at least in public venues.

21. This older really dorky looking guy was holding a
stuffed monkey at a McCain rally and he had an Obama sticker on its head. When he noticed the cameras were on him, he took the sticker off, crumpled it up in his hand and put it in his pocket, then he leaned over to a kid up on someone's shoulders nearby and gave the kid the monkey doll so he wouldn't even be holding it.

He looked like the slimiest kinda guy. And he was totally busted. Hang on, I'll find the video.

26. Oh. My. God.
That just makes me profoundly sad. I don't even know what to say.

What a pissant little coward though, trying to hide his bigotry once he's caught red-handed. Sick, sick, sick.

7. He was the first big name journalist to give first hand reports of how nasty
the tone had become in the McPalin rallies. It seemed his main concern was how the media was being treated, but he mentioned how the black camera man was greeted with racial slurs etc. I think that is how the ball got rolling and next thing you know, major news networks began reporting on the "Kill him," "terrorist" remarks coming from the audience.

6. Honestly I think the fundies and other wingnuts now realize they can get free air time..
by just shouting out their views at McCain rallies.

I doubt it's going to stop now. McCain can't control his crowds.

10. Not really, but the clip of McShame trying to calm down the rhetoric is all over
They played it on MTP and ABC's This Week... So the back-story is finally getting out there.

20. You know, my mother believes it's some kind of conspiracy

She used to be a regular church goer. But after a falling out with her church long ago, she realized the same thing - they only have the serious talk shows when people are in church.

13. FWIW CNN had the film of the lady telling
McSame Obama was an Arab and his response to it playing at least five times yesterday. Race was the topic of the day yesterday. They also played the Lary King clip of Michelle dismissing the "Bradly" effect about four times throughout the day that I saw.

16. It helps that these attitudes are unacceptable to most people.
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 02:37 PM by Waiting For Everyman
Peer pressure works on adults too, even the Repubs, except the most hardcore. If Palin had succeeded in making that hate socially acceptable, this would've been really dangerous. Even though the Repubs may revel in it at the rallies, in larger society they can't admit to it or be put down.

Now if the financial ruthlessness could fall out of favor more than it has, that would be great. But this crisis we're in is helping with that a lot. At least something good is coming from it.

So much is being accomplished this year in terms of peoples' thinking, in the combination of the election and the economic crisis. Conservative attitudes politically and financially have been such an awful blight on this country for a long time. Of course a lot will depend on whether Obama wins, to solidify it. The American public is really at a turning point now, in such an essential way.

I wonder if somehow or other, the fake-Christian RR churches could be seen-through and be rejected by most of its supporters too? That would be cool.

17. Dana only cared because she attacked the press, too
He actually made more of the fact that Palin went after the press than her inciting attacks on Obama.

He's still a tool and always will be.

The moron demographic is only going to get more agitated at "that one" becoming Pres and will disobey campaign directives as their hate tactics get worse. Definitely possible. They hate the media too.

What makes you think it's been shut down? Just watch. It isn't so easy to put out this kind of flame, and even if McCain is at least trying to calm things down, I don't see any evidence whatsoever that Palin is going along.
