What's Obama up to in Florida?
With Florida being in play, I'm hearing from some other posters at DU that McLame is running some absurdly inaccurate blow the belt attack ads there, desperate to try to win over a few folks.

Apparently, he's hitting the "palling around with terrorists" angle pretty hard as well as absurdly claiming that Democrats are responsible for the housing crisis.

While it doesn't (or shouldn't) take a mental giant to figure out that if Republicans have controlled everything for the last 8 years, and the economy and the housing market plummeted into the shitter all on their watch, it's their fault, straight up, no way to dance around that truth.

However, it would certainly be a good idea for the Obama camp to have some ads on the air in areas where McLame is really going overboard, to counter the smears and lies. Maybe an ad pointing out how Republican greed and poor economic policy are the actual culprits.

Any Floridian DU'ers able to tell us if you've seen any Obama ads airing down there? I'm in a solid blue state, (CA) so we don't see a whole lot of TV ads from either candidate.

Thanks! :hi:

1. I'm in Orlando and Obama seems to be on 2:1 in ad's...
But that's not confirmed, just what it seems. I've been glued to everything recovering from surgery so I've seen a lot. What I have noticed is hat Obama's ads tend to be more on policy and the positive ads, very few of the ones that go after McLame's character/behavior. The one where he's "looking forward to introducing Palin to the big spenders" runs quite a bit, but other than that, it's the ones that show Obama's mother, the one with the orange string on healthcare, and the on that shows the polar-ends of the healthcare plan - I really like that one.

The ground assualt is huge here for Obama - unlike anything I've ever seen.

4. Ok, good. Glad to hear it!
I'm glad Obama is really making his presence known there.

Get well soon!

2. I'm on the gulf coast of Florida
and Obama ads are definitely 2:1 or 3:1. I don't see McCain ads that much, but have seen that inflammatory Ayers one.
The Obama ground game *IS* ridiculous and will help carry Obama to victory in Fla.

5. Ah, that's great news!
I'd love to see Florida go blue this time around. When I heard that McCain was running some nasty ads there, I wanted to be sure that Obama was taking him to task.

Sounds like he is!

6. I am in South Florida
and I have seen 2:-1 Obama ads. Positive most of the time with him and showing pics of his mother. I do wish to see more ads Obama "attacking"* Mccain's plans with Medicare and Medicaid. The seniors must be told McCain will cut funds from these programs and to me, they are not fully awared.

Obama. Please do commercials that shows Mccain's stands with Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security NOW!!!

7. We all know that the poor people caused this global economic crisis
:sarcasm:

I agree that the Republicans are idiots if they expect people to believe in this.

8. I'm in Palm Beach
I do think there is a single McCain ad running here. There are a few joint RNC-McCain ads, but I actually see more RNC only ads than those. Obama ads are far outnumbering the anti-Obama ads. As far as the tone of the ads, the RNC only ads are by far the harshest.

9. Jacksonville is a HUGE battleground
I dont know which ED drug I should get anymore because all I see are political ads.

Stickers adorn a higher percentage of vehicles than I have ever seen at any time.

The Yard Sign Wars are also in full effect with some home owners asociations begging that residents stop posting them.

fwiw, In the wannabe white middle & upper middle class areas are where I see the majority of McSame stickers and signs. They are driving their leased SUV's and tiny Lexus and Beemers and wanting soooooo bad to be one of the millionaire republicans that they are willing to vote for someone who does not share their values, nor will cut them a break, helping them get closer to that elite status for which they lust.

11. I Live In One Of the Very Red Counties In Florida & For VERY FIRST
time we have ELEVEN Obama teams working here. PLUS we have 22 Democrats running this time out! What's significant about this?? Well, having lived here since '78 I'd bet the percentage of Democrats getting elected in THIS county might not even be 5% in the past 25 years!

I'm seeing ads running daily, but you can't rely on my perspective because I watch a lot of alternative stations. What WE ARE having trouble with here are our "down-ticket" candidates, simply because of name recognition. The same people have been elected over and over and it's been hard for us to get enough coverage for them. Christine Jennings kinda/sorta lost to Vern Buchanan by 369 votes in 2006 and there were 18,500 votes that went missing, never to be found. This time around, her primary opponent decided to pull a "Lieberman" and is running as an NPA and pulling votes from her. Jan Schnieder has run FOUR times for the same Congressional seat and has lost each time as a Democrat and it's PERSONAL for her now! I was once a Schneider supporter, she's more of a REAL Democrat, but she hasn't been able to win. Jennings was once a Repuke, but she's showed she can be a contender! Most here think she did WIN last time out, but because of Jan, this time looks to be losing.

This despite that Vern Buchanan presently has FOUR lawsuits against him by his OWN employees, and in the past has had around 180 lawsuits in the past! And yes, I said 180!!

Local paper headline recently... Democrats LOVE to eat their own!! Jan Schneider's name will be MUD by the time November 5th gets here. Almost ALL the local candidates have asked her what issues she wanted promoted and are willing to push her agenda, but she won't budge. I even wrote her myself as a former supporter... still she won't give.

I do realize she's standing up for what she believes in, but making "history" in the County is also something that could help many other candidates in the future. But it's VERY PERSONAL between Jennings and Schneider! And it's sad!

While Obama IS AHEAD in this VERY RED county which is MAKING HISTORY, while canvassing we are coming across more UNDECIDEDS that I though we would!!! Still getting good response for Obama though!

12. Tallahassee isn't as hotly contested as the central part of Florida
But we've seen McCain and Obama ads. Probably more Obama, including the very effective 2 minute ad.

Snapped this on I-95 in Florida last week. Jacksonville is pretty depressing, but it looks much bluer as you go further south.

19. Ads here in SE Florida (Miami-Date)are 3 to 1 Obama- maybe higher-
I've seen only a few Mclame ads frankly- Obama ads however, run constantly on cable and network stations as well. I've also been paying close attention to the road and I've seen perhaps 3 McShame bumper stickers so far - EVER- and that includes driving 10 miles to work and back every day but Obama bumper stickers are all over. That's my new favorite traffic game- counting the different types of Obama bumper stickers on the way home from work which, while listening on XM to Rachel Maddow's show makes the drive ever so much more fun!
On the ground, the field teams are doing a fabulous job here. I went to one of at least 3 different orginzational meetings yesterday for Obama that took place here in Dade county. We had about 35 or so at our Miami Beach event.

I hear they are sending down more field staff this week- am in the process of looking for housing for them speaking of which - anyone from Miami Beach reading this who has space to house Obama staff please PM me!

20. Jacksonville could be the key to Florida.
That's why we're seeing so many negative ads from McCain...Ayers is huge and veterans against Obama ads are just out and out lies. I still don't understand how these can be put on tv...They are clearly nothing more than propaganda. We're working hard here and just might shock the state when the votes are finally counted. Let's hope.

Sounds like the Obama team is really campaigning hard there, so, great news!

And yeah, why inflammatory BS propaganda is even given air time is beyond me.

23. Tampa here. On a recent drive through a couple neighborhoods
coming back from the grocery store (these aren't affluent neighborhoods, strictly middle class "Joe Sixpack" type areas) and I spotted 9 Obama yard signs and not a single McCain sign. Obama is running ads heavily here. The McCain ads I see seem desperate, while Obama's are thought provoking and sensible.

24. I just spent about seven days in Pasco County Florida...
Drove all around, up and down SR 19 and SR 52.
McLame signs EVERYWHERE and not a single Obama sign.
I'm not talking yard signs either, I'm talking 4X6 giant McLame - Palin signs tacked to posts driven into the ground.
They were all over the place.
Pasco County is one of the poorest areas of Florida, and yet they support the one candidate that will keep them poor.

I'm planning on posting more about my experience some time next week.
It's a regular freak show down there.

However, I did see one of those giant McSame signs with the red X through it on my way back to Orlando on I-4.
So there's that...
