I exceeded her score by 519 points, AND have eaten at an IHOP, so I have valuable international experience. Me for VP!

(And yes, I know that while SATs are not a true barometer of intelligence, they surely may be indicative of abysmal stupidity. 841?)

33. I didn't even know what SAT was until my son took one.
But I never bothered with school, either.

I still wonder why people go to school and end up as prisoners in tall buildings.

When I was a kid, you could learn everything you needed in a library and from the world around you.

And I have never had to have what most people call a "real job".

Never.

I have a daughter at another Idaho school who took the ACT because she applied there - although she also took the SAT. I didn't know what Hawaii's schools prefer.

75. 36, but when I took it in 1988, anything 28+ was excellent and 30+ was
outstanding (meaning hardly anyone scored above 30). But more recently my nephew got a 34 and said a few other kids in his school scored that as well. I got a 29 the first time so I took it again to get 30.

12. This is asinine
1) No one can authenticate the scores
2) The scores were calibrated about a decade ago - so older scores are usually lower. (the reason was that earlier there were about 300 of the top 1600 points that contained just the top 2% of test takers.)

34. I beat her score, but (that said) the test is crap
It has been proven time and time again that it has little correspondence with actual college performance

Although improved over the years, the verbal test is still somewhat culturally biased

I've seen smart people flame out and get bad scores, and I've seen the terminally stupid go to test preparers and come out with scores that make them look like Nobel Prize winners.

62. I'm taking personal offense at all this SAT BS on DU....doesn't mean anything!
I know I shouldn't, I'm only one.

But you know what, I did better, but not that much better than Palin SATs.

I went to a high school in a very white, very wealthy and very Republican town. By the time I hit 15, I knew I didn't belong and was tired of trying to fit in. So, I went in search of, far and wide, new friends who I could relate to and have fun with. That being said, I did the bare minimum at school and spent my off hours hanging out with my new black, gay, lower-wage earning, etc. etc. friends.

AND IT MADE ALL OF THE DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!! It turned me into a curious, toleraNT, life experienced young woman. Something that might not haven't happened if SCHOOL HAD BEEN MY LIFE!

Because of my grades and SATs, if I wanted to get into a good college, I had to go to community college just like Palin -- another aspect that has been so diminuized here on DU.

But I went on to matriculate into one of the best statewide institutions in the country and then got a master's at an Ivy League school.

YES! PALIN IS AN IDIOTIC MORON, not because her SATs were low. She is an idiot because she is incurious. She is an idiot because she is filled with hubris and doesn't think there is anything "schooling" or "books" have to teach her. And she is an idiot because she has relied on her right wing religous views, her looks and her ability to mercilessly attack those who have every desirable quality she herself will never attain!

65. You aren't running for VP
I know exactly what you mean, and reducing one's whole worth to a largely irrelevent metric collected very early on in life is unfair for almost anybody.

But this is for all the marbles. Along with her college hopping, it does represent **something**.

I do have sympathy with her though, because I college-hopped since I was in a bad place back then and didn't graduate. I'll finally be finishing my degree six and a half years behind schedule (was away from school for quite a while) in December. If I eventually run for this country's highest office I feel it would be reasonable for my academic history to be judged.

(although if the thing really is an outright forgery, we all look stupid regardless for even talking about it)

71. You must ask yourself
Would you feel any differently about Barack Obama if he did poorly in high school, did bad on his SATs, went to community college and then went on to do well at a university and ulimately became what he has become? I would think the answer is NO.

Having multiple posts re: Sarah Palin's SAT scores is the equivalent of the freakin' freepers screaming out Obama's university transcript.

Our country is on the precipice right now. I don't want Sarah Palin not to be VP because she didn't do well on her SATs, I don't want her to VP for who she is and what she believes. I'm sure I could scrape up a few of Pat Robertson's minions here in VA who scored a 1400 (or whatver the top score is) do you think they will be "qualified" to be VP 22 years from now.

Not for me, they will never be, not with the religous extremism, the war mongering and the race/gay/democratic hating indoctrination they are now going through.

With that said, thanks for writing down your story. We couldn't all be scholars at 16, right?

66. About 480.
I think I was around 1320 on the SAT. I remember being slightly disappointed, because I had a 34 on the ACT.

and cooked in italian, french, and chinese restaurants to put myself through college. I have run a business, been president of two (non-profit) corporations and been a manager in the sciences for 20+ years, I am clearly more qualified.

78. I got a 1320 (+479) in the spring of '94
This was in my junior year (570 V, 750 M), before the SATs were recentered. My adjusted score would have been a 1400 (+559). I didn't even bother to take the SAT in my senior year, for I figured a 1320 would have been good enough for almost any schooll (it was).

91. I didn't - I never took the SAT's
I couldn't go to college. Some of us had to work for a living and try to keep a roof over our heads.

I could really give a rat's ass what anyone's test scores were in high school. I don't care if someone was a complete fuck-up when they were a teenager as long as they wised up later in life. Plenty of people who were brainiacs in high school fucked up their lives later and vice versa. Palin is an idiot NOW over 20 years after high school and THAT is all that matters. I don't get this strange obsession with her high school test scores. It's stupid.

95. +459, if those scores actually belong to her.
560 verbal/740 math for me but as you said, SATs are not the measurement I'd use for VP readiness. People can change and decide to apply themselves more to intellectual pursuits later in life. However, I think it is clear to most that this was not the case with Sarah.
