Amazing: One outlier poll and every doomsayer crawls out of their hole.
To revel in it.

Sad, isn't it?

2. some people always looking to nail the coffin closed
The news of Kerry's demise is greatly exaggerated.

5. Polls are as accurate at judging the way votes will go, as Wall Street is
an accurate measure of the shape of the economy. Which is to say: Almost no relation to reality at all.

7. I swear, it's one of two possibilites
Either they've never been through a presidential campaign before, or they are interlopers intent on sewing discord!

8. I don't accept the premise of these polls
As to who is and is not a likely voter.

This election is far more about turnout than it is about persuading those few undecideds out there.

That's why the RNC was so heavily into stroking their base. They know that turnout is the key.

9. Not to mention the trolls who've lurked for months...
...and show up only to defend (the wonderful swift boat debunking from two weeks ago—thank you Walt Starr!) and offend (today's wacky Time poll).

This board is gonna be a mess the night Kerry wins the election...but in the words of Sheila E, "such a pretty mess“!

11. I hope its an outlier
But if its not, what do we do? give up? NO!! We work harder to make sure it dosen't last! I wonder if any doomsayers really hope that Kerry will win.
Once the debates come, Kerry will trounce Bush among those who still have yet to make up their minds, because Kerry's always been a champion debater and Bush can't talk. Although the repubs are trying to get 2 debates instead of one...

12. If it isn't
It puts Bush in the role of frontrunner -- a position that long-distance runners know is precarious.

It's hard to see how Bush could improve much on this poll. That means he has nowhere to go but down. A dropoff from his bounce swings momentum our way.

13. Indeed. SO WHAT about this poll?
Some had Kerry up by 7 or 9 and we see on with Bush up by 11. There is indeed fluctuation in polls and between various polls. We need a mass mobilization more than anything. Get your friends and acquaintences to vote. The polls pointed to a Bush win in 2000, and look, he lost the vote by 500,000 votes.
