I know there isn't enough room on the internet to list all of the reasons, but I'll focus on the financial crisis.
A president should be brilliant and univerally respected. He should be able to take the stage in the middle of any crisis and get the country and world to trust that America knows what she is doing. His (or her) words should be able to stop a loss of faith in our markets because everyone in the world knows that the world economy is only as good as the American economy. This is not about being full of shit, but it is about charisma and presentation. Bush's obvious fear, delays, and mishandling of this situation showed the world that their economies are shit, because of how bad ours is. It has made many believe that maybe their futures shouldn't be hitched to America.
I have been reluctant to agree with the "crisis of confidence" because our economic problems are very real, but no longer am I reluctant because how could we, and more importantly, how could the world have confidence that America knows what she is doing, when scared buffoons are driving the bus. I'll lose some of you with the next statement because everyone likes to cling so tightly to their party, but here goes. Platforms are important but having a brilliant, reasonable President, who is capable of inspiring confidence is just as important. Sometimes that person is Republican e.g. Reagan (he did a lot I disagree with, but I hope people on both sides agree that we needed him at the time). Recently, more often the person is Democrat (Clinton, Obama on total package)(Gore, Kerry on intelligence and reason). Republicans voting along party lines for McCain are even bigger fuckwits because they would rather Americans lose everything than disagree with a candidate's stance on some issues.
The biggest fuckwits of all are those who don't exercise their right to vote. If you don't think it really matters who we have as President, watch any speech that Bush has given during this crisis, look at your financial statements and job situation, and think long and hard about what you have in life and what you want in life for yourself and your children and GO VOTE!!!!!
