About Troopergate...
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 08:51 AM by yourguide
Oh my. The Alaska Legislative Council meets at 9AM AK time to decide whether or not to release the report.

Just a quick check of the 8 members of the Council shows, 7 Republicans and 1 Dem. It's quite possible this report does NOT get released today...I could be wrong but this seems to be the only listing I can find of members of the Council and their political affiliation.

http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_com_info.asp?comm=SLEC&session=2

*EDITED TO ADD*

Correct tally posted in thread below but:

14 members on the state legislative council (4 D, 10 R) will vote on making the report public.

One of the Republicans, Lyda Green, has already pledged to vote to make it public. That means three other Republicans will have to vote to make it public as well. As you can imagine, the McCain campaign is putting huge pressure on these republicans to vote no.

1. Damn. I thought it was a given that it would be released today.
I'll take encouragement from the fact that the Court decided to pursue this, and that some of the Repubs on the Council feel this is a legitimate inquiry.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

3. I think I am wrong...
I think there is a bi partisan council. Finding reports that the dem chair of said council re: Palin is Kim Elton who is NOT listed in that link.

Any help researching would be appreciated.

7. Well don't spent too much time worrying about it just now -- we'll know in
a little while if it will be released or not, and we can take it from there.

2. Meh. In some ways, not releasing the report would be a good move.
We really don't want local politicians running destructive little campaigns and kangaroo courts every time someone from their area runs for office.

I'd like the report to be released, and I'd like to have it say she's a friggin' criminal, but I can see real good reasons to sit on it until after the election.

6. If it's exculpatory, they'll release it
If it's not released, she's dirty.

Thus, our chant will be "What are they hiding?" "Must be something they don't want us to know" and so on.

11. Good Point!
If this scenario does play out along party lines, let's orchestrate the viral chant but let's make sure the report ,which eventually will leak out if it is not released, is the one the Independent Investigator composed.

10. my gut feeling is this will continue to be a nonissue. Obama will win it on the economy
We have learned from the Plame case that they control the courts. They also have lots of money to bribe the locals.

12. My understanding is that Alaska state Repugs have no use for Palin
She got the nomination by calling Alaska's Repugs corrupt crooks who should be investigated.

14. ..... weren't they the ones who decided to move the date up.....
..... and NOT do it days before the election as previously planned?

But I agree, I dont think it will be the October suprise that we're hoping for.

15. I suspect they are just doing this to make every effort to give the appearance of fairness.
They will probably still release it. Seems most R's wanted the investigation in the first place.

18.  Lyda Green is the Senate President so I would expect her to have some influence over the other Rs.
Also, Alaskans have been disturbed by all the scandals, especially Ted Stevens, in the news and I suspect they want to try to change that image. Stopping this report will not help with that.
