David Gergen on Colbert calls out McCain/Palin for inciting rage.
The video will be available on Comedy Central tomorrow - I don't remember everything he said because I got a phone call during it, but he DID address the the rallies Palin and McCain are holding, and how they are inciting the crowds.

He repeated the "Kill Him" quote and the "he's a terrorist" quote, and, I believe, talked about how dangerous it was. I was happy to see someone address it, and if anyone heard better than I, please post what was said.

Thanks!

I'm going to do everything in my power along with everyone else who sees this as the crisis it is.

They aren't going to stop until they're shut down.

My son only gets his news from cable and says they're bashing mcpalin on this but they have to hear more and more from all of us.

2. Gergen ended strong
Despite the "John McCain" is a patriot crap, and how he's not really responsible for what's going on.

After putting out a few of the "Terrorist" and "Kill Him" stuff, his demeanor changed...

"You need to rein that in. She needs to rein it in. He needs to rein it in"

3. Every once in a while, Gergen impresses me. SOMEBODY needs
to be speaking up about this. The Senate should censure McAnus, and ship Talking Caribou Barbie right back to Alaska there, ya know.

4. The last months of your campaign are the first months of your presidency
I liked this a lot.

If McCain wins this, he will be the most hated president ever.

5. Yeah, he was trashing them yesterday on CNN too. He is pissed about it.
As someone else suggested, if this continues McCain is going to end up with a crowd which he lacks the skill to control. They are out for blood, as can be seen from their behavior at today's rally.

16. Very good points, and a very real scenario as well.
There exists a hardcore group of people that seem irrationally hyper-dedicated to Palin (I work with one), who are very likely racist (as she most probably is), and are committed to seeing this woman get in the white house. The Daily Show put a supporter on who tacitly hoped that McCain would die in office so that Palin could be president, if I remember the segment correctly. But your point about ending up with a crowd he can't control is very real and in fact I've heard this now on a few hate radio shows where the hosts (Hannity and Bill Bennett as two examples) have had to steer callers away from hateful language.

8. No, and I believe she incites them on purpose.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people were plants. But now it seems to be getting worse and worse, and they need to be STOPPED before someone gets hurt.

I was glad to hear Gergen with the direct quotes, and really believe McLame and Palin should be censured or something.

20. No, I was thinking THEIR side.
I just don't think that many people would suddenly begin jumping up and yelling these things, if they weren't given an example or two.

18. I like Gergen, too.
I find his comments thoughtful and clear. He is one of the few that I don't see as completely partisan one way or the other. He has his moments when he edges more to one side, but the majority of the time he is middle of the road.

9. In a writ I posted tonight I called on our President to put a stop to this.
It is simply enraging he is abdicating his responsibilities to this degree.
If he can't make us feel better about the country going bankrupt, he should stand there like a leader and call a stop to his party inciting that kind of trouble.
Damn !!!

14. Perhaps if we had a genuine statesman
and leader in the White House, he would have immediately made a televised statement about how dirty, dangerous and un-American this is, and ask that some measure of dignity be returned to the campaigning process. But unfortunately we have Bush.

I hope McCain listens. I would like to see this be the final nail in the Rovian swiftboat political machine.
