I was just on Fox News (sorry, I don't have the clip, but if anyone does, please post it) and National Review's Rich Lowry did his best to try to drive the conversation into one that uses William Ayres to liken Barack Obama to a terrorist. I responded that the conservative movement simply doesn't want to talk about the economic crisis, or John McCain's Keating Five past - a past that helped set the stage for the current crisis. Hilariously, Lorwy called the Keating Five affair "old news" while simultaneously asserting that Ayres crimes from 40 years ago when Barack Obama was 8 years old is somehow "new."

Without going into the laugh-out-loud joke that is Rich Lowry (you could write a book on that mindless dolt), what we are watching more generally is an attempt to turn the Republican base into a 21st century lynch mob. Whether it's using Obama's middle name to imply he's a Muslim, or McCain and Palin saying nothing when a frothing crowd screams "kill him!" or "terrorist" in reference to the Illinois senator, the right is doing everything it can to stir up a violent mob. And it's working.


Here's a taste of the messages that filled up my email in-box immediately after appearing on Fox:

Subject: You commie

You claim to be non-partistant but you are just like 95% of the media that is brainwashing people to vote democrat, you are supporting socialism, communism, and the elimination of free country as we know it. You had absolutely no answer to the terrorist ties your buddy Obama has, he is a radical. You have no answer to his association with his "family member like" Rev. Wright, he was attending a church that for 20 years criticizied the very country that gives YOU the right to speak freely, 20 years of white bashing, 20 years of blaming the white man for every problem blacks have ever had. You should go to Cuba and see what communism is you coward.

Subject: Fox News

I watched you and Rich Lowery on Fox News and how you completely overshouted Rich Lowery and ignored the moderator. You proved what you are, an arrogant piece of shit who creates problems rather than tries to solve them. You are an arrogant liberal who onoris disingenuous. You want to compare the Keating 5 scandal of which the top prosecutor in that case said McCain did nothing wrong to the multiple scandals that Obama has been involved in ???

Oh and tell your former fat piece of shit bass in Montana that he's a fraud and traitor as well.

I'm getting sick and damn tired of seeing your ugly puss on TV. You are an absolute scumbag and a piece of trash. Why don't you stick your damn head up the area of your anatomy where the sun doesn't shine?

As you can see, the Lynch Mob has no facts - it's not even interested in facts. It is interested in hate - and hate alone.

I fear for Barack Obama's safety in these final days. I really do. The conservative movement is not going to go down quietly - and with this upsurge in unbridled anger, I'm worried we're going to see some violence. I really hope I'm wrong - but I'm concerned.

McCain has let the genie out of the bottle. Once Fox News and the rest get going, he can't put the cork back in.
