Put the champagne on ice
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 11:40 AM by JohnnyRingo
I'm not trying to jinx this. I'm knocking on wood, crossing my fingers, and metaphysically doing whatever it is I'm supposed to do with rosary beads. But...this one is in the can.

Put yourself in the average Republican's shoes. It's not as difficult as it seems. We're just putting on the shoes...not the whole wardrobe. Their candidates are flailing around like blinded boxers. I seriously don't think that campaign could hit water if it fell out of a boat. Now...remember how we felt in '84 and '88. We didn't have a prayer. The news organizations tried to keep it interesting, but in our hearts we knew. That's exactly how they feel today. The game is decided, they are already defeated, and we're just waiting for time to run out.

McCain knows it and showed he knows it last night. He walked off the court and back into the locker room as quickly as possible. He left as the balloons and confetti fell from the rafters, and the fans poured onto the floor. The only thing missing was the shot of Obama hoisting the trophy over his head.

After all that...there are going to be a significant percentage of disappointed Republicans that "throw in the towel". They won't bother going to the polls at all. Unless there are one or two state ballots that they feel strongly about (gay marriage always gets them worked up for some reason) they'll save their time and gas and stay home leafing through their survivalist magazines.

One more thing. I don't think we should worry about Palin in the least. Obama will have two terms, and that will make her 52 years old in 2016. She's not smart...she's not witty...she's not blessed with classic beauty...and 52 is much too old to get by on a flirtatious wink, even for a Republican.
