I know the polls look bad today but key point to remember
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 11:29 AM by RMP2008
From my studying of the 1980 campaign, the polls told us that Carter/Reagan was going to be a dead heat/too close to call race as well in an environnemnt similar to this year and the party out of power ended up winning by 10 points. Hopefully, that happens to us this year. They also don't reflect the a*s* whipping that Senator Obama handed Mcsame last night either.

you sometimes start a post, and you get called away, and you come back later and just hit "POST," only to find that what you had to say is outdated? Maybe he started this a month ago, and just got back.

14. Zogby, Rasmussen, GW Battleground and Hotline all moved today
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 11:36 AM by RMP2008
From +7 to +4 in the GW 7 day tracking poll, from +2 to +1 in FD, +8 to +6 in Rasmussen and +3 to +2 in Zogby.

Essentially back to a dead heat when it looked like we were pulling away last week.

Even John King mentioned a national tightening last night on CNN. I just don't want anyone to become complacent. That's what I am all about. Work and feel like we're 5 points down! Overconfiddence leads to disaster.

19. Polls can't be "freeped" or "DU'ed"
Only online pseudo-polls can. Polls can be badly designed, but that's a different thing.

7. The polls don't look bad today! One poll has tightened
most of the others are fine. Why are people getting into a tizzy about that stupid Hotline tracking poll? Obama still has solid numbers with Ras, Research 2000, and I'm sure GAllup will be fine, too. A new poll out today conducted in the last two days has Obama up by ten in Wisconsin. The debate won't be reflected until starting tomorrow and I think Obama will end up getting another boost.

10. Looked at an electoral map today?
Fuck the right wing, whore media polls. The only polls that matter are the exit polls on 11/4. If those don't match the "official" results, then there's a problem (They were always amazingly accurate before the invention of "voting" machines)

21. There are three types of elections.
Those where people want change, those where people want the status quo, and the tossups, where people are mostly happy so they vote on personality. 1980 was a change election. 2000 was a tossup.

Polls don't show this. They take snapshots, but trends need moving pictures. Even daily tracking polls can't show a trend, because they are pictures of what people have decided at that moment. Polls under-represent the undecided. In 1980, you could feel the dissatisfaction, even when the polls showed a close election. Even people who didn't like Reagan wanted change, and in the end, that's what they voted for.

I think this is a change election. You can feel it. People who normally vote Republican are unhappy with the way things are going. Even those who don't like Obama, and even some who like McCain, don't want more of the same. I think on election day a lot of people will have decided to vote for change, no matter who they personally like.

27. The race MAY have tightened a little
Negative ads might have temporarily brought out some racists and USA!, USA! type people. But Obama's response was good and we won't let the Repukes get away with it. No real damage done. Throw the Hotline poll out. No way are they tied on the economy! You are right that the debate will also help us.
