One thing about the debate I worry about.
As President it is important to be able to read people and situations. Meeting with Foreign Leader and Dignitaries one would think that the President would need to deduce whether the situation is tense, or friendly, if he as to be aggressive or passive. Last night the audience was clearly serious and seeking assurance. McCain seemed to be unable to read the audience. His attempt at a petty joke clearly was uncalled for and caused an awkward and tense moment for all. Is this really a person who should be representing our country?

1. No, McCain is NOT a person who should be representing our country.
And I couldn't figure out what his problem was last night, wandering aimlessly around the stage while Barack was talking. I mean, what the hell? He acted like he was lost or something, looking for Suite 390 in Corridor H, and he's in Corridor B...

Reminded me of the first time I stayed at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. That resort is very confusing until you figure it out, and I was totally in the wrong place a couple of times, at which point you have to just kind of walk around and look at all the signs to figure out where to go. That's what McCain seemed to be doing last night.

If McCain supposedly excels in this debate format, I'd hate to see him in one he's not good at.

2. Whereas Obama clearly has a highly refined capacity to read the mood of the crowd,
and generally says just the right thing. Like when he briefly defended his record after a McCain attack, fired a couple of return shots, and then quickly said "But you don't care about two politicians pointing fingers at each other" and segued beautifully into talking about people's fear and anger over the economic crisis.

3. McCain is so wrong for the job in so many ways, it's almost hard to pick
which one is the most damning. . . . his temperament? his "skill set," his ease with lying, his judgemet . . . .
Good God, the list goes on and on doesn't it?

Welcome to DU by the way! Love your Elizabeth avatar!
I actually saw her in the mall not too long ago and waved. She grinned and waved back like a friend!

6. Thanks!
I would have loved to see her as First Lady but I also want to see Michelle as well. I hope Elizabeth Edwards will be here for a long time speaking her mind, especially on health care.

5. Absolutely not, even in his role as a Senator. He needs to be kept
on a short leash with handlers if he deals with foreign dignitaries.

And thank God he'll never be president so that's not a worry. :)
