"Yeah, well, Kerry was leading at this point in '04 too!"
I've seen this statement repeatedly, from both the left and the right. This is not true.

This is Obama today.

This was Kerry four years ago today.

14. We live in post-KATRINA, post-IraqCivilWar, and post-RecordHomeForeclosure World now.
And have since before the election of 2006.

9. Right, Obama is ahead 349 to 174, twice as many electoral votes as McLoser.
Kerry was only ahead at this point 280 to 239.

4. WOW! One of the reasons they use...
...to say that the 2004 election was not stolen is to say that Kerry never led after the conventions.

24. Four years ago I was convinced Kerry would lose.
It just seemed he couldn't get over the hump.

I'd get excited one day, only to see things shift back toward Bush. :(

7. We may as well color Ohio blue now too. I was just told by
my most conservative, fundie employee that there is no way she could live with herself if she voted for McCain. This will be the first democrat she will have ever voted for. If this is happening, to her, here in Cincinnati, it's all but over.

12. 2004 was so bizarre. I guess it took 4 more years of war and a destroyed economy to wake folks up.
Last night, I kept thinking about the Kerry-Bush debates of 2004, and how Kerry totally dominated them, metaphorically de-pantsing Bush on live TV in front of millions. And yet, Bush still won. It's still unbelievable to me.

I think Kerry was actually a stronger debater than Obama has been. In 2004, Kerry took Bush apart like a prosecutor. His answers were short, crisp, and biting. Obama sometimes rambles a bit. But people like him. He's ahead.

Politics are always going to be a mystery to me. :)

17. Most people initially make decisions based upon their emotions and emotional appeals
and not on rational and logical arguments backed by facts. As Democrats we just cannot understand how that is possible.

overtime. Since his primary debate days, but there is room for improvement for everyone. :hi:

27. I share your sentiments 1000%
If Kerry had been the prosecutor in 2004, W would still be in jail.:-)

It also took me a good while to get over the 2004 race. It's not credible that W won legitimately. Kerry would have been an excellent President.

Since it's 2008, it's Obama all the way!!!!

GOBAMA!

I know we Austin liberals have a good bit of clout, but enough to throw the whole state in doubt? What a pleasant dream!

18. There is a point to people saying that. It is.. DON'T get OVERconfident.
For those of us who have been on DU for many years (me, since early 2001), we have lived through the ups and downs. We experienced people popping champagne on election night in 2004, only to find out we got hosed in Ohio. We take nothing for granted.. nothing. A lead today means nothing. Just as polls are worthless. We thought Kerry had it nearly sewn up until OBL was trotted out for his quartannual political boogie man video the weekend before the election.

We have to keep fighting... and the most important thing right now is voter suppression tactics that are being waged against us right now.

23. Kerry never held any lead in the average of polls after the Republican National Convention.
He dropped big time in September, but bounced back in October to tie and keep it neck-and-neck for the rest of the race.

Some polls had him up, barely, but on average, he was tied or behind Bush.
