Obama Attended Al Gore's Fundraiser Last Night - Pool Report
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 08:04 AM by Crisco
The motorcade arrived at the Gore mansion at about 10:20 p.m. The pool rolled out of the bus and up to the front entrance. Campaign workers hustled the reporters in the front door, where there were greeters stationed on either side. We walked though a foyer and a living room with a bar, past a table with family photos, into another room with a table piled high with sumptuous desserts. From there, we stepped out into the back of the house, where the guests - numbering between 300 and 350 - were gathered under a plastic tent. The press squeezed past a bar and stood alongside a stage at the front. Nashville Mayor Karl Dean was chatting in the crowd, as was State Rep. Joe Armstrong. Gov. Phil Bredesen was also there. Rain was pouring down through the seams in the tent. Shortly after we arrived, Al Gore took the microphone and said, “Come on this way, we’re all going to crowd in here. C’mon.” With Tipper Gore at his side, he said, “First of all, we had a great night tonight. Tipper and I are so pleased to welcome all of you to our home.”

He went on: “I want to acknowledge our Democratic candidate for the United States Senate Bob Tuke.” Tuke was standing in the front row. He also recognized the finance chairman of the DNC, Phil Murphy and Tammy Murphy (sp?)… “There are so many celebrities and elected officials and entertainers, if you walk around here and see some of these world class superstars, I just want you to be forewarned, I’m not introducing any of them, because we have the main event. I just want you to know that we are so honored and proud to have Barack and Michelle back here in our home in Nashvlle. I am so excited about what is lying ahead for our country. We can’t take anything for granted. We’ve got a lot of hard work to do, but ladies and gentlemen, I take such pleasure and pride in saying these words: the next president of the united States, Barack Obama.”

ps - Obama announced Michelle is going to be on the Daily Show tonight.
