Tonight's debate.... a pictorial/creative prediction (better than ever!)
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 02:32 PM by Essene
A fictional rendition and perhaps a touch of prediction... about tonight's debate.

Enjoy. =D

Question from audience:

A lot of us are getting tired of the mud slinging. Senator Obama and Senator Mccain, why should we vote for either of you when you're spending so much effort on the smears?

Obama:

Sir, i truly truly appreciate your question. We need to be talking about the economy.

For many months now... Senator Mccain's approach to this election has been to go negative, to smear, to lie, to trash talk. Everything and anything besides straight talk about what's making americans anxious. He's questioned my patriotism. He's pretended that i supported sex education for 5 year olds. He's even tried to imply i have ties to terrorists. It's not only silly but becoming dangerous. At recent Mccain rallies, i hear that folks are screaming "kill him" and "terrorist!" All this stuff about Ayers, Raines and Rezko... the media has fact checked it all and flushed it. Even Fox News trashed this stuff. Yet the Mccain campaign keeps the negative smears going.

Senator Mccain's campaign is making Republicans ashamed. And i think it's sad that his own campaign has openly said, just this weekend, that they'd rather get into negative smears than to talk about the economy. I agree that the american people deserve better. The american people deserve serious discussion and reflection on our country's problems. I've put one really hard hitting documentary on the internet for free which puts Mccain's objective history on economics into clearer focus.

Mccain:

Sir, i thank you for demanding more of politicians today.

Senator Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth. The facts are that he's got some tough questions to answer about his associations. A lot of americans are seriously concerned about his character. He's also using a double standard, saying he doesn't want smears but then he goes out there and lies about my record and tries to dig up 20 year old stuff. I will not accept him attacking my integrity. It's just unacceptable and frankly... unpresidential. The american people Do deserve better and that's what i'm offering.

Obama:

You know... you can't have it both ways. You can't lecture about integrity, and then say you're going to stop talking about what americans care about in order to just smear. I decided to bring up Senator Mccain's "Keating 5" history because it relates directly to the economy. I am not surprised that he finds it uncomfortable.

Senator Mccain's history shows a long pattern of bad judgment about the economy. He still maintains the same failed philosophy and approach he had back in the 80s bailout of banks... banks his associates had ties to and corruption which brought him before a senate committee to account for his lapses in ethical judgment and abuse of power. His own wife had hundreds of thousands invested with Keating and Mccain has called it all the biggest mistake of his life.

But.. this failed philosophy that says just deregulate everything and have the rich trickle down success fundamentally places faith in the wrong place. Senator Mccain didn't learn any of the lessons from the 80s bank crisis and that bail out. Our economy's engine is the middle class - not the rich, not the bankers and their lobbyists who continue to surround Senator Mccain.

Mccain:

My friends, this is a disgraceful smear of my honor and reputation. I was cleared of all those charges back in the 80s. I have spent decades fighting for ethics reform, fighting off lobbyists, and nobody can question my integrity on that.

I find Senator Obama's attack childish and an indication of him having no real respect for true reform. This is a guy who himself has lots of shady associations and shouldn't be trying to attack my integrity. Your ties to Rezko, Raines, Ayers... it's disgraceful. You're in no position to attack me.

Obama:

Well John, you can pretend you've changed your tune since the 1980s but you've been making the same failed arguments about the economy since then. And as for ethics, you've had to drop 3 co-chairs of your campaign for impropriety. Phil Gramm himself was involved with lobbying on behalf of mortgage holding banks while you repeated his calls that this was all psychological. You kept arguing that the economy was just fine...

John, it's your own campaign manager whose firm was taking in $15,000 a month for lobbying on behalf of fannie mac... up until last month. You can pretend he has severed ties with a firm where he's still an officer and still and owner, but the people aren't buying it.

You haven't learned the lesson, John. You didn't even know how many HOUSES you had when asked. We now know that you own 8 houses. How can you be aware of financial conflicts of interest when you don't even know the basics of your own finances? Were you aware of how many you owned when you fought to make folks like yourself able to leverage all your homes during bankruptcy filings rather than just your primary residence?

Tom Brokaw:

Senator Obama, you're over the time limit...

Obama:

John, you go out there telling americans to be responsible about their finances and you lecture washington on ethics violations, but here we are again, you're knee deep in another crisis, surrounded by lobbyists with their hands in the cookie jar.

You're selling more of the same, and America isn't buying it. They aren't buying your economic arguments, they aren't buying your smears about kingergarten sex ed, they aren't buying your smears about my being an unpatriotic american with ties to terrorism. Enough is enough.

Your judgment on economics appears to be for sale in the caboose of the straight talk express.

*dramatic pause after a few chuckles from the audience*

Tom Brokaw:

Would you like to respond, Senator Mccain?

Mccain:

HOW DARE YOU, SENATOR OBAMA. YOU'RE A DISGRACE TO THIS NATION. YOU COME IN HERE THINKING YOU'RE SO DAMN SMART BUT LET ME... WHEN I WAS IN VIETNAM...

*Mccain stomps off stage*
