Iranian press: 5 American generals were briefly detained in Iran yesterday
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 09:50 AM by thewiseguy
According to the Iranian press the plane was leaving Turkey on its route to Afghanistan. The plane was forced to land near an airport and there were 5 high ranking American generals on that plane. They are saying that after further questioning it was determined that the plane had entered Iranian airspace by accident. So they were let to resume their trip to Afghanistan.

That is my rough translation. It sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

Another Iranian source is saying that the passengers of the plane were not Americans but military officers from another country.

5. Because generals don't go on bombing or spy missions.
IF - big if - this is the truth, it was probably an honest mistake by the pilot. He's also in big trouble if this story is true!

3. That makes me wonder why 5 generals were on the same plane. Is that normal?
Geez what a mess that could have been.

4. How brave of them to offer themselves up as hostages for McCain.
:eyes:

Honestly, could this failed, staged international "incident" be more transparent?

I think the some Iranian sources love to stir up "international incidents".

10. Wow. That's quite a difference. Hungarian vs. American.
Wonder if we'll ever get the true story here?

8. You know how I know that story is BS?
Because five American generals would NEVER be on the same plane at the same time.

9. Dangle, dangle. Didn't take the bait, again.
Assuming this isn't total BS, of course. Can't imagine why a US military transport would have to make an emergency landing in Iran on a trip from Turkey to Afganistan (look at a map), unless it was over the southern-most Caspian Sea and had to land immediately.

Mighty peculiar.
