CBS morning show: Nashville is OBAMA COUNTRY!!
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 09:27 AM by Fly by night
I live an hour south of Nashville, and had spoken to several friends last night (at another showing of UNCOUNTED) who were planning to be part of the pro-Obama audience to help enliven the pre-POTUS Debate II morning shows.

Those folks, and hundreds like them, turned out in droves and apparently drove the McLame folks to the curb. I have just watched the last half hour of the CBS morning show, all shot in front of a large and diverse Nashville crowd and, folks, there was not a single McCain sign visible. Not one.

Holy moly. Vanderbilt is 5-0 and now this.

It got ever better.

John Rich, a diminutive country singer (part of Big 'n Rich -- yeah, I know you haven't heard of them) who supports McLame, was interviewed for several minutes (without a single "boo" or applause). He then launched into some pro-McLame tub-thumper and the audience behind him did NOTHING.

No cheers, no dancing. Nothing. They just stood there, politely. And silently.

I turned the channel for a minute and when I turned back, the crowd was now dancing. Three women -- all with pro-Obama signs -- were dancing right next to the bewildered Lee Greenwood clone, all on national TV.

Welcome to the real south, all y'all. We recognized "all hat, no cattle" before that was cool. Thanks to my neighbors for showing the nation that Tennessee has some deep-blue parts -- a lot more than the forces of evil think.

One thing's for sure: Obama/Biden is leading this race now and they have generated momentum all across this country, including in the South.

Here's a prayer that -- this time -- we count the ballots as they were cast. If we don't, all y'all will come to know Tennessee as the Orange State. Because, like the Ukraine, we will go to the streets dressed in orange and we will not leave until .....

Believe me, I much prefer the broadcast image this morning of our side in overwhelming (and joyous) numbers, dancing in the Nashville streets. That's the future I hope for, here and across this country.

Thanks, Nashville cats, for showing up, standing up and speaking up.

(The dancing wasn't bad either.)

1. If any of y'all watched the morning shows, how did Nashville look on the other networks?
It wouldn't surprise me at all that ABC or NBC had lots of McLame visibility. I hope not. CBS did Nash-vegas quite proud this morning.

sister lives in a rural area in Tennessee and she said the pro-Obama people outnumber McCain supporters. Anecdotal but interesting.

I can't do that. But I can see my garden from here, getting its first rain in a month. Nice trade-off.

6. I hear there will be a LARGE march led by Vets for Obama this evening.
They will meet at 21st and Magnolia -- at one end of Hillsboro Village -- at 4:30 pm and then they'll march to Belmont. I may just have to drive to that myself.

All y'all come. It would be nice if a large pro-Obama march here in the Athens of the South tonight -- with all the world's eyes on this debate -- will help start driving the nails our nation needs to be hammering right now into the Rethug Party's coffin.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO JOIN US ON TUESDAY FOR MEDIA DEBATE VISIBILITY IN SUPPORT OF OBAMA!

As you know, the second presidential debate is set for Tuesday, October 7th, here in Nashville at Belmont University. Joyce and I have signed up to be a part of this important and historical event. We are joining other Obama supporters and will be part of the the visibility campaign happening at Belmont throughout the day. These gatherings will start as early as 5:30am (whoa, we have volunteered for that early shift!) and we'd like to invite you to join us and/or volunteer for any of the other shifts that day. The scheduled shifts are:

5:30am - 8:30am
8:30am - Noon
Noon - 4:00pm
4:00pm - 8:00pm
8:00pm til post debate

The location is the Belmont Quad. If you can come for all or part of one or more shifts OBAMA NEEDS YOU!

Note that parking will be a real challenge so you should, in advance, prepare to park your car at a point that may not be too close to the University. We have heard that street closings will be happening at around 3:00pm so beware of that fact when considering your parking spot. Also, be sure to bring water and lite snacks since there may not be concessions in the area.

7. Most current polling has Obama behind in TN
But the same poll stated that Obama was ahead in Nashville. In my part of Tn. Obama is behind but he has more support than I had expected. People are not wild about Mc Cain at all.

10. While Obama may lose TN, I hope his organizational efforts help Dems keep our legislature.
If the TN legislature goes Rethug, we will never count the votes as cast in Tennessee.

I'm not all that sure we've been counting the votes properly for the past decade or so. With a Democratic governor and Democratic legislature, one often wonders down here below the Bible (sic) Belt. But that's another story.

15. Hold on there, buckaroo.
Our Governor is Democrat.

Our legislature is Democrat.

The majority of our US Congressional delegation is Democrat.

The Democratic roots of Tennessee run deep. So does the moderate wing of the Republican party, particularly over in east Tennessee (a group disgusted with Bush and his McLame spawn). Though the Memphis/Brentwood fundies and wack-jobs have a loud voice here (and our local Rethug operatives are among the slimiest in the country), being a proud Democrat in the Orange State is not a lonely position. Not by any means.

21. Yep! I've heard TN called the perfect "crucible" for politicians
because the east leans right, the west leans left, and the middle leans centrist.

The only reason that Gore and Kerry lost TN and the reason that Obama is losing satewide is because none of them have campaigned here.

Nashville is definitely Obama Country.

24. Gore only lost TN by 4% in 2000
Kerry didn't do that well in 2004. The polls I saw yesterday put McCain ahead statewide by about 11%, alas. But yes, there are a lot of democrats in Tennessee. It's a mistake for anyone to think this is a solid red state.

16. Kicked and recommended for blue Music City.
I believe Obama stands a serious chance of winning Tennessee, the West should turn out strong, I also believe Obama will carry Middle Tennessee because of Nashville and the past disastrous eight years under Cheney/Bush's corrupt, incompetent rule, the people are waking up and this will suppress the stronger Republican Eastern part of Tennessee.

To top everything off that you said, Al Gore moved here and the Tennessee Titans are 5-0, there is some positive karma going on in Nashville.

Thanks for the thread, Fly by night.

It was great to see all of those Obama signs.

And thanks for all of your work for election integrity here. There's really no way to thank you enough, and here's to hoping that votes are counted as cast! :toast:

19. Davidson county is largely democratic and pro-Obama.
But, if you go 10-15 miles south to more affluent Williamson county, it is mostly pro-McCain. Additionally, the rural counties tend to be very red. I would LOVE to see TN go for Obama, but it is not gonna happen. Nashville, on the other hand, probably will.

22. Go Nashville!!
Thanks for your post! That's how I remember Nashville. I lived there for 7 years (1995-2002). I lived south of town, too, in Spring Hill. While there was more "red" around my neighborhood, most of my friends and co-workers in Nashville were definitely "blue" folk.
