Voters see Obama as the better health care choiceDemocratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has an edge over Republican John McCain on health care, according to a new nationwide poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.
Its Sept. 24-25 survey of 801 voters found 51 percent thought Obama was the better choice to handle health care, while McCain was preferred by 38 percent.
The two candidates have very different views. McCain's plan includes tax credits to help consumers offset th cost of insurance, while Obama awould have insurers cover pre-existing conditions “so all Americans, regardless of their health status or history, can get comprehensive benefits” at reasonable prices.
The poll also found that 78 percent of those surveyed said that the next president should tackle health care issues even if it means more government debt.
And 79 percent said that while everyone in their household has insurance, another 32 percent said at least one person in their home is not. And 6 percent said they cut back their coverage to reduce costs.
