McCain recounted the accident decades later in his autobiography.
"The engine quit while I was practicing landings," he wrote.
But an investigation board at the Naval Aviation Safety Center found no evidence of engine failure. The 23-year-old junior lieutenant
wasn't paying attention and erred in using "a power setting too low to maintain level flight in a turn," investigators concluded.
The
crash was one of three early in McCain's aviation career in which his flying skills and judgment were faulted or questioned by Navy officials.
In his most serious lapse, McCain was
"clowning" around in a Skyraider over southern Spain about December 1961 and flew into electrical wires, causing a blackout, according to McCain's own account as well as those of naval officers and enlistees aboard the carrier Intrepid. In another incident, in 1965, McCain crashed a T-2 trainer jet in Virginia.

WAPOAccording to public records, he and Cindy received a marriage license in Maricopa County, Ariz., in early March 1980, four weeks before his divorce from Carol was final. A judge in Florida dissolved the McCains' marriage April 2, entering a default judgment after Carol failed to respond to three court summonses. John and Cindy were wed six weeks later, on May 17.

Would he be where he is today had he not changed his life, and his wife, when he did? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/05/AR2008100502589.htmlWould he be where he is today had he not changed his life, and his wife, when he did?

In Arizona, the tales of John McCain's angry rage and belligerent, threatening behavior in relation to the Mt. Graham Observatory project are legendary.
Today, new evidence in the form of a
document, made at the time of the events, has been produced confirming the charges and demonstrating McCain's patent dishonesty in repeatedly denying his misconduct. From Alan Maimon at the Review-Journal
