I just spent 3 hrs phone-banking for Obama! I'm all charged up!
My cell phone isn't charged up anymore, but I am! :woohoo:

We are in CA, calling registered in New Mexico to identify which candidate they're supporting and to let them know about early voting in their state, which starts on 10/17.

Here's the good news: Of the people I was actually able to connect with, I spoke with many, many, many more Obama supporters than McCain supporters.

It was very encouraging, very easy, and totally fun!! I'm going again next weekend and bringing friends.

Find a phone bank, make some calls! Hop on board the Obama Train!! :woohoo:

We're gonna win this thing! :toast:

1. Doesn't it feel good!
I did it for the first time this week and I was so nervous because I am naturally shy but by the 3rd call I was all relaxed.

3. I am not shy, but I really like NOT having to engage with McLame supporters
we just thank them for their time, once they state their choice, and keep on keepin' on...

As they told us at Camp Obama, this is a "People-centered, numbers-driven campaign"

I like that.

4. What's your secret?
Were you actually advocating for Obama, or doing something else? I'm situationally shy and talking to people on the phone I don't know is one of those situations.

7. join mybarackobama.com
and look for events near you - if you find a phone bank the phone bank coordinator should give you good instructions.

It is always difficult at first - so many volunteers are doing things that are out of their comfort zone.

But, when I don't want to knock on the next door or call the next page of phone numbers, I just tell myself that my cousin is in Iraq, living in conditions that I can only imagine. He is away from his friends and family in a foreign country, living in a combat zone and see things that I don't want to imagine. I'm sitting in a safe place with a phone, making a few calls. Nobody can hurt me, I am hurting nobody and I am doing this to save lives. literally. Many people's lives depend on us taking our country back.

10. I'll remember that too when I get nervous making the calls
Right now I am fired up from the Springsteen concert. Both literally and figuratively. Horrible sunburn! Owie!

I've just been avoiding the phone call thing. But with what you say, it puts things in perspective.

5. Good for you for your feet on the ground.
I let my fingers do the walking, but it's our collective efforts which will make the difference come November.

This is truly OUR campaign.

6. I had a good day yesterday at the phone bank, but
Thursday, not so much. I must have hit a John Birch Society stronghold!

I am observing that there are less undecided voters in the last 10 days and that things are breaking for Obama.

20. I went to a town called East Chicago, Indiana. It was about a half hour drive
from the south side of Chicago, IL. It is mostly black and Latino. I knocked on a few doors where people answering were wearing Obama buttons. There weren't too many undecided and fewer repubs. I registered a few people. The strategy there is GOTV. The town is HEAVILY dem but usually has a low voter turnout. They sent us to a Union headquarters where they had made lots of there own Obama signs and buttons that were really nice. They are trying to hit the same area over and over registering people to vote, get those who weren't home before and just to remind people vote vote vote!!

They informed us that early voting should have already started but the repubs put an injunction out to stop it. Sounds to me like we can expect the October surprise soon.

22. GREAT JOB, mucifer!
I used to live on chicago's south side, Obama's neighborhood, in fact, tho before he lived there, I think.

Wouldn't it be great if we could turn Indiana blue by 'enfranchising' this part of the state?

14. Thats great and very important to do.
For the ones that are nervous, I am very shy and very nervous when I started as well. I am a Neighborhood Team leader in Toledo, Ohio. The phone banking is one of the most important things we can do for the campaign. It helps to target people that are undecided and also what area they may be undecided in. One good thing that I do is make sure I have my laptop available when I do the banking so I can keep my web pages open to http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ and also http://www.fightthesmears.com. It's very easy to look up something people may have questions on that may not be your best area, they will also not expect you to know every little detail.

(you also save the campaign money by identifying McCain supporters)

16. Most of the people I spoke with were already on board, which was nice.
I don't have a laptop, but I refer people to that same website if they have specific questions or concerns about his positions on issues.
