Why I think McCain's negative campaign strategy will fail.
The next 31 days are all about the undecided voters. Strong democrats and strong republicans are already accounted for. There are those who are not so strong either way, but usually identify with one party or the other and it is all about getting those people to the polls. But the election itself, in addition to getting voters who might stay home to the polls, is going to be determined by those voters now identified as undecided. As some of you already know, I have been canvassing and phone banking for the Obama campaign. One of the complaints that I have heard from many undecided voters is that they can not stand the negativity. They are actually leaning toward voting for the campaign they see as the least negative. They want everyone to talk about the issues. I think that McCain going full throttle negative is going to drive away the voters he would need to win, he is going to drive them right to Obama.

1. Immediate retaliation will defeat McCain.

3. I think it won't work because there is no there, there
All it would take is a simple statement from the Obama campaign or a good ad.....

We should make a list of every person McCain has ever known who has been in trouble..lol
start with Keating.

6. And also continue to question his character just by showing how much McC lies.
That is a deal breaker for most Americans. That will drive McC batshit, because his reputation as a man of honor means so much to him, and he himself is flushing it down the toilet.

4. Agreed. And with each negative ad, McCain proves himself branded by Bush.
Had to reference an earlier thread that featured an article about the real-life Mavericks. Loved Mama Maverick's line about McCain: "He's a Republican. He's branded."

5. and remember when Hillary did that?
for awhile there, every time Hillary tried to say something negative about Obama, it would have more of a negative impact on her than on Obama!

I think it will be the same way with McSame!

7. It's not even about the undecided voters
Obama has enough support to win the election right now. He just has to hold on to it.

8. I agree, it will fail with the important undecided/independents.
That's if there's any truth to the CNN focus groups during the two debates so far.

Any time McCain and Palin got negative, their respective meters dropped.
