Yes, a friend sent me a link of Steinem's recent LA Times piece on Sarah Palin, but I'm sort of surprised at a sort of vacuum that exists when it comes to how sexist Sarah Palin's VP selection has become.

The interesting thing is how many sexist layers exist in this selection and how few of them are even really being discussed.

To me, probably the most sad thing is how so many women on the right fail to see what this selection says about them, especially when they go on talking head shows and gush over this woman, her skills and background.

1. Calling an idiot an idiot isn't sexist - no matter how many X chromosomes are involved.

8. right. no difference. none what so ever. men "servicing" women and being a thing
being raped, objectified, kept out of jobs cause of gender and being made submissive and subservient are all things men routinely experience.

15. Obama doesn't wink and make eyes at his audience.
Obama doesn't say sexually suggestive slogans like "drill baby, drill", while gyrating his pelvis to the camera. Neither does Biden. Neither does Hillary Clinton. They don't have to, because they have intelligence, substance, and respect for the American people.

10. it was going pretty
fast at the beginning, .....

i am pissed. i think women have the right to be pissed right here and now. we are being attacked from many different directions

i would like to state emphatically though, say it out loud, in a huge ass thank you, for the many many men that i have listened to the last handful of days that see it for what it is. and not being impressed or fall into the conditioned behavior. i do feel much better about that. sometimes though, it becomes overwhelming. but i am thankful for the many men that are standing up for and with women

12. I know some of it is indeed ugly.
And yes, you certainly should be pissed. But I think the majority of DU's men would side with you any day.

4. I've seen lots of stuff. From the "she's an insult to feminists" to the
"gotta give her respect for forging ahead to a powerful position" to the people angry at her using cutesy tools to win votes.

7. But isn't it worse that....
she is either being used as a cutesy tool, that she is using her cutesy tool or that she is oblivious to that she is either of these.
