Once Obama is safely elected, what will you do?
I have to say, my poor husband and child are suffering greatly from the last year of non-stop politics... From the primaries and on into the general election, I have been rather focused on this issue... So, after Obama is safely elected, I am promising to devote more time to the family... I'll never stop paying attention, but I know the country is more safe in Obama's and Biden's very capable hands. The poor child probably believes that somehow K.O. and Rachel are his relatives, they're with us every evening.

1. Stock-up on canned goods in case Bush pushes the button before January 20th.
Do you really think Bush will voluntarily leave office at the end of his term if McCain loses?

Our second grandchild. I told her to name the baby "Barack" if it is a boy (she doesn't want to know) and she laughed at me and said "sorry", so maybe I can work on you? ;-)

But, no problem. By this time next year there will be a brazillion little baby Baracks.

11. Too much work left to do to think about it...
We need to stay focused and work like we are ten points down. There is still a very real chance that McCain will be elected so please keep knocking on doors, making phone calls, and donating to the cause anyway possible. There will be plenty of time to think about our plans on november 5th.

12. It will be curious to see what the tenor of the board is with a Democratic POTUS.
I myself have a lot of craft and art projects that are 1/2 finished and totally suffering from neglect. I will get on those right away. Hopefully within 4 years of his presidency there will be some kind of health care for people like me who fell through the cracks. I will go get a check-up and not be terrified that they will find something that will get me turned down for health insurance.

20. Agrred. And I trust the democratic base
will be better police of their party than the republicans were. Where the freepers just cheered their party on while the country circled the drain, I really think we'll get on our own party's case if they fall flat.

That's why I am amused when they talk about this congress having the lowest approval rating: sure all the republicans won't be happy with congress because it's dem controlled, but WE are not happy with congress because they took impeachment off the table and didn't fight to get us out of Iraq.

Seems to me our base doesn't suffer fools gladly just because of the letter D after their name.

The fun of hearing the plans for the next administration will enlighten your holiday days too.

But I'm not counting the chickens yet....there's too much time left and the Bradley effect will worry me until the election is called. I'll save my warm fuzzy feelings of hope to explode in happiness the night of Nov 4th.

22. That's when the work really starts.
Repeal the patriot act.
Restore habeas corpus.
Fix the FISA bill.
Restore credibility to clean skies & healthy forests.
Fix this fucking bailout bill.
Fix the bankruptcy bill.

There is so much that needs to be done! And if Obama can't do much in the next four years, we'll be looking at at least 8 years of a repub White House again. I wish we could stop this fucking cycle. The repubs get in office & fuck everything up. We the People get pissed & put a dem in office. They fix it, or at least stop the bleeding & then the repubs get back in office & fuck it up again, only worse.

When are Americans going to learn that you don't elect people who don't believe in government?

I'm worried now that our party is so compromised that even with the White House they will be ineffective.

23. This is just the beginning, so take a short breather and then: "Break's Over!"...
If people just go away, and do not stay involved then we get what we deserve. We need to be the driving force for real change. I for one am not willing to trust anyone to be left alone to do it.

I DO NOT like Obama's vote on FISA, and I think there IS NO EXCUSE for such a vote. I intend to hold him to his promise to investigate the wrongdoings of the Bush administration and then see if he loves this country enough to do something about it or allow Bush's actions to be precedent setting for the next criminal who makes it into office.

I will continue to push for a clean vote counting system, a system which is not privatized and is auditable
I will continue to push for campaign finance reform
I will continue to push for whatever it takes to clean up media: a breakup of ownership or restoration of the Fairness Doctrine
I will push for regulation, oversight, and accountability
I will work to make sure my friends and family never forget what the republican party did to our country
I will be FAR less tolerant of "democrats" who do more for corporations than constituents, and work hard to get them voted out and replaced with real dems.

25. Eith rejoin the local Democratic Executive Committee or get into election reform
No matter if we have a Democratic President or Congress, if we are not assured of fair and verifiable elections, this country is still in danger of another coup. So we will need to use Obama's first four years to make sure the future of our country is in the hands of the people, not left to election stealing a-holes.

27. I will sob. Honestly. Because around the time of the election,
my husband will finally be out or nearly out of Iraq and an Obama win will mean that his chances of going back to Iraq again are a lot lower. It will mean that we can focus on America and getting our economy moving in a positive direction again, it will mean that we can focus on Afghanistan and finally take care of Bin Laden. It will mean that we will have an intelligent and compassionate man in the White House again.

Turn the tv off for a month; limit my internet cruising to 70% learning/hobby/work, 20% finance, 10% politics.

Reflect on and probably still tear up a bit at the thought of what happened and be damned grateful that those in our nation that are inflexible, stupid, fundie, low information racists didn't prevail, and realize that in fact they are a fading minority that will continue to move into obscurity.

Spend time with dh and the dogs and finish all the unfinished projects we have somewhat neglected due to intently following all of the historic events that have been unfolding.

Take a look around my neighborhood/region, and select some individuals and groups that could use a hand or a donation, and get some charitable works going locally.

Get so frugal that it redefines all my old expectations of how to be frugal.

Exhale again.

38. I am already emailing
Obama, congressman, Reps that they better be writing bills NOW so the day Obama takes office alot of undoing can happen. I will not stop pushing them to fix our country, for the sake of all future generations. I will after Obama is voted in do all I can, as one simple small voice to remind him what he promised and what as an everyday hard working American needs to survive this mess. I will push daily for American jobs that are leaving this country or being taken over by H1B's. I will push daily to end the Iraq war, I will push daily for them to find someway to put those Wall Street jerks behind bars. I can't sit back anymore, I just can't.

41. Keep on pushing - stop the war machine
I am more of an anti-war activist than a political campaign activist. This time I focused on the election of Obama because I knew that 4 more years of Bush policies would be a disaster. I've been very supportive of Obama since he entered the primary campaign and will be delighted when he takes office.

But, even with a good President and Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress, the military / industrial complex will still have far too much power and far too much of our tax dollars. There is just no way that the "defense" budget for our country should be more than the rest of the world combined.

Peace, real peace is not just the absence of war. It will require a lot of hard work to redirect our priorities toward education, environmental protection, adequate health care, etc, etc.

Let's start by including a Department of Peace in Obama's cabinet.
