Mayor Sarah Palin--out of touch with constituents

On the way to looking up something else, I found this interesting article about an indie musician John Baldwin Gourley, who used to be the most famous person to come from Wasilla, Alaksa, until Sarah Palin stepped onto the world stage.

We've all heard by now about the expensive stadium Palin built in Wasilla, which left the town millions of dollars in debt. According to Gourley, what the kids really wanted was a skate park.

“Zach and our original keyboard player (Wes Hubbard) were trying to get a skate park built, but she wouldn’t go for it,” Gourley said. “Wasilla is like so many small towns with the problems of depression and drugs. But Wasilla’s got six months of darkness, so it’s worse. The park was a really reasonable request. She always put on a nice face for them and then sent her assistant over to shoot their plan down.”

So the next time someone says to you, "Sarah Palin connects with real people," tell them about the kids in Wasilla who just wanted a skate park.
