Perhaps so that we won't be surprised when they come? these Cultural Smears against Barack.

Cause Chris Matthews has been talking about this stuff for a while, and now it appears that Rachel is also talking in the same vein.

Guess it could make sense.

I was a bit confused and pissed about this earlier today. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7306993

1. There has been one time where Obama's campaign was truly floundering
that was during the whole Reverand Wright debacle. That said, I think thats old news and people have gotten over that. But I dont think McCain can win on the economy, so what more does he have left except to go ultra negative?

2. But I am talking about.....could certain folks in the media be kind of
helping the Obama campaign by defussing any element of surprise, or be able to say....see, this is the stuff we'd say they were going to use, rendering it ineffective?

4. The only surprise they would have is...Why this late?
They've probably been expecting this from the very beginning and would wonder how come they didnt do this months ago.

5. Could be...but I swear to God....mccrap better not go there.
I think he will try, and I think it will finally sink him, but I'm not sure my blood pressure can take it.

7. That would be nice..it is nice.
If you have people saying .."be ready for incoming smears", it certainly takes the impact out of them.

You know mccain is going down schmearing his lungs out.

11. The NY Times put an article up tonight about Ayers..
Obama and ’60s Bomber: A Look Into Crossed Paths
By SCOTT SHANE

Records of a school reform project suggest Barack Obama has played down contact with Bill Ayers, a founder of the Weathermen, but they do not seem to have been close.

I actually wondered if it was an effort to get in front of the topic. I realize this was discussed during the primaries but I assume the McCain surrogates will be harping more on this. The article was 2 pages but had a much to do about nothing tone to it, IMO.

3. The Obama campaign already knows this and since they've done
a good job so far, I trust they will continue to do so. I've also read about several 527's who are going to chime in and help. Rover & his protege tactics aren't going to make it this time!

8. That's what I'm thinking.
But I don't think the media is going to play along this time....not like they did the swiftboating of Kerry.

10. I'm sure that's true! They have nothing to lose. If it doesn't work,
they lose, and if they don't play that game, they lose too!

9. There will come a time when I am glad......
..... to live in a red state, far far away from ANY campaign commercial, be it good or bad.

12. Whatever happened to the NYT story about McCain's affair with the lobbyist?
They accused the Times of reporting rumors and the story got dropped. Did we ever get a satisfactory answer?

Not saying Obama should bring it up (yet), but it seems like something he can keep in his pocket if McCain's impending attacks are effective.
