2. Why are Gregoire and Rossi so close in Washington?
Has Gregoire done something wrong in Washington?

7. Rossi has led the rematch polling for most of the past 3 years
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 09:41 PM by Awsi Dooger
Sometimes he had a high single digit or double digit lead on Gregoire, back in 2006 when her favorables were low.

In 2007 the polling started to favor Gregoire. This year she generally led but it always figured to be very tight.

13. She's just not all that likable, in my opinion.
I haven't met many Democrats here who fall over themselves saying what a great governor we have. This state has faced some pretty severe blows to its economy over the years, with Boeing leaving, and now the Wamu thing. Our transportation system is a mess, the roads are horrid. Our budget is always in crisis.

I really hope we can get it turned back around, but I don't think either Gregoire or Rossi have it in them to do that.

6. I think she let Rossi run too many ads.
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 09:29 PM by FVZA_Colonel
Hers were off and on for a while, but Rossi's have been on practically 24/7. She's putting out a number of new ones, and I was actually surprised that Rossi's not in the lead, so there's still a chance she can pull out a victory.

Take away everything else, one thing that would secure my vote for her and against Rossi is Rossi's stated desire of allowing pharmacists to refuse to dispense the morning-after pill to women who have been raped.

With his cowardly "GOP" label.

12. The latest ad that has him morphing into a picture of Dubya is pretty good.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this. I know the Republicans in this state feel continuously shafted. I hear many secessionist claims over the years about the eastern half of the state separating from the west, but I kind of laugh it off. The idea is ridiculous.

8. From what I can tell it has to do with the way both campaigns have gone
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 09:59 PM by junofeb
about this election season. I was hearing a few campaign commercials on radio a month or so ago when I was still working and there were some pretty negative and possibly exaggerated things being released from both camps. I'm not around TV, so I haven't seen recent ads, but I've had several friends complain about the vitriol of this grudge match and how they wish they didn't have to choose either one of them. I think most WA voters are in this conumdrum, it's all about the lesser of two evils.

I'm a fairly recent transplant to WA, so I don't know all the background as far as her viable primary competion among the dems. I think we could do better than Gregoire, who seems very corpratist, but Rossi is totally unacceptable.

11. I agree. Gregoire is not a good pick.
I admit to not voting for her in 2004. Gary Locke, the man who had the job before her, put this state in a pretty bad way. She seemed too much like his equal. So I cast my one and only ballot for a Republican that year and that election completely blew up into one of the biggest clusterfucks in our state's history. That'll teach me. lol

Rossi's movement has been huge where I'm at here in Olympia, and it's disconcerting to say the least. I'm sick about the idea of him winning, but Gregoire really hasn't done a spectacular job either. Like you said, it's the lesser of two evils.

15. Thanks
As I said, I'm kinda new here (well, 3 years) I missed the last election and came in on the ugly aftermath. Glad to know the spidy-senses were on the right track! :hi:

10. Ugh. Because Rossi folks have a HUGE grudge after the last election.
They truly feel they were robbed.

I have a feeling that Rossi is going to pull this one out, and it sickens me.

14. Obama's running the best campaign in NV I've ever seen
And I'm the primary/caucus voter type who door knocks for county commissioners and dog catchers. I've got pictures of me and my kid with Carter, the Clintons, Obama, Harry Reid, Howard Dean, etc.. I've seen a LOT of campaigns in Nevada, the majority of which were poorly run, in a state where the State Party organization is little more than a joke (can someone in DC please send us some professional training?). Obama's campaign is running here like a well-oiled machine; it's the kind of campaign I've only heard about second hand from people who used to live Back East.

I left their state headquarters this afternoon in fact, thinking, "So THIS is what they mean by 'Chicago-style politics.'"

16. This is really good news....the campaign is doing a great job.
My husband had to go to a T. Boone Pickens meeting in Nebraska a few weeks ago and he said there was a guy there from the campaign giving out information and speaking to people about Barack. They are kicking butt everywhere!!!

18. I Volunteer with Gregoire--here's my view on what's happening
I can say that in the primary she won by 2% over Rossi. My county and I doorbelled alot for her, went for her this time and last time they went for Rossi.

She has done a great job as Governor. As voter's we said by initiatives that we wanted to give teacher's higher pay and decrease class size. Problem was no one in congress would fund it. Gregoire did fund them.

Rossi is funded big time by the Builder's Association. They are using this "change" name for their pact. He's a wimp. complaining that she picked on his dog and his italian heritage.

His ads are flat our wrong. The Governor negotiated a deal to decrease Indian gambling in the state. Part of that deal involved the state not getting a cut of the money received. She did not get the huge campaign donations indicated. The Tribe's donated to the Democratic party in whole. She is only allowed by law to take about $25,000 of that money.

The other ad that is being shoved down our throats about the deficit is also a lie. It is a projected deficit through the year 2011. There is no deficit now. We have a rainy day fund. The State Treasury himself came on the Dave Ross Show on 97.3 fm/710am, and said the ads were wrong.

The Governor came into office with 2.2 billion deficit and she and the congress will fix it again without increasing taxes.

We are going to be doing a huge GOTV effort for all our candidates and Gregoire endorsed Obama at the very beginning. I predict that the Real estate salesman Rossi is going to go down in flames, whining the whole time.
