Why is Chris Matthews encouraging McCain to go "cultural" (racist)?
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 07:01 PM by FrenchieCat
why would that be something that Chris would continue to bring up over and over again? What is his motive for this? Because I'm about to contact NBC's President and other top honchos to complaint about this. As a Black person, I take exception with the media speaking as though this is an acceptable route to take for McCain.

1. Because the "horse race" thing is dead and he knows it.
All that's left is total catastrophe and so he wants that to happen.

Quite frankly, if McCain went down that road, it would be more efficient in destroying his campaign than pouring gasoline over himself and lighting a match.

2. The MSM wants a closer race
They will advocate the most disgusting means possible if it accomplishes that goal.

3. Cultural isn't necessarily racists
It is a tactic used by Republicans to attack many white Democrats to. Basically the we will take your bible, guns, and convert your kids to homosexuality.

5. Chris specifically said, "Cultural"........and said Wright.
Ayers is only dragged along for nuance. They have already tried Ayers, and it hasn't done a thing....and so it won't again. These are all attacks of associations...and I'm just trying to figure why Matthews and his co-horts brings this up a few times a show. Same with CNN. They do it too.

6. Professional pot stirrer
All this shit would work if we weren't so fucked up economically. Problem is, this ain't the year for the Lee Atwater playbook. He might have added that little truth as part of his "analysis."

7. What does that even mean? 'Go cultural'??
Because if it means what I think it means, I am with you. That is racist.

12. Whether it is or not, a part of is certainly is......
Chris said something to the effect, McCain is going to have to make him seem "different" from the voters, while McCain has to seem the same as them! Then Tool Cilliza said, "Well he can't do it himself...I don't think", and then Matthews said (paraphrasing) He'll have to use 527s and things. And Michelle "Almost fooled us Tool" Berhnard said, he has to focus on the economy, but yeah, he can get outside groups. It was disgusting, and I'm trying to figure out why they are giving him this advise on Television. But Chris has been saying this for quite sometime.

18. Could it have been some kind of bizarre reverse psychology?
McCain is going to get desperate enough at some point to start doing this stuff. Do you think Matthews is getting ahead of it so that when people see the ads they will think to themselves, "Oh, wait, I know what that is." ?? I am probably giving Matthews way too much credit there...

19. It's possible. Because it has been said so many times.....
That's always possible.

It really is up to the media to determine whether they will allow it.....so, who knows?

9. He wants a horserace and McCain needs another gamechanger
I think it's good political strategy. McCain is tanking rapidly in the polls right now and needs to roll the dice on something.

10. I don't think he was encouraging him, I took it as him putting out
there that it is probably that it may the only choice he has, and then asking what Michelle and Chris thought the likely hood of it happening is.

I think its laughable to think Chris would be trying to do something to deliberately hurt Obama's candidacy.

14. "why would that be something that Chris would continue to bring up over and over again?"
Because, as he has admitted more than a few times during his broadcast, Tweety, along with most of broadcast media, including Brokaw, are part of McCaint's biggest base.

15. Bullshit
How many times do you have to watch Hardball in lets say the past month to get that Tweety seems to be with Obama.

16. I don't think he is, really
I think he's just realized what McCain's people aren't quite saying: he's not doing well at all, and there isn't much out there that would lead you to believe that's going to change.

He hasn't got an issue on which he could improve his standings. He's pulling out of states all over the place - to what? Cement Alabama or Texas?

I think Matthews is saying that it looks to him like McCain's goose is cooked. And the only possible thing he can think of is that ugly stuff.

Of course, if McCain does go there, Matthews gets to say "told you so".

Also, keep in mind that the media really, really want to keep this a tight race. Ratings, and all that.

20. Chris Matthews LOVES political theater & drama
That's what really excites him about politics... not policies or issues... just the pure drama and theatrics of it. He thrives on it, he loves it, he goes there every chance he can dig up. And he's not above making suggestions that he hopes will generate even more theater & drama.
