Maybe Michael Moore could shop around and see what a woman in her 50's with a history of stroke and drug addiction would pay for health insurance.

I'm betting that $5,000 "tax credit" would get her about 3 months of CRAP insurance.

What a horrible idea!

I think all the Republicans in the house & Senate should reject their gold-standard health care plan -- after all government health insurance is BAAAD! (for US that is!)

1. Yeah, talk about being out of touch with Joe Six Pack.
How many doctor visits would that cover? Do they have any idea what an x-ray costs these days? Is Palin sucking on govt. teat of medical care?

2. theoretically, a high deductible catastrophic to cover hospital expenses only
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 11:08 AM by yellowdogintexas
no mental health
no dr visits
no RX
no ER
no lab/xray/PT/

NOTHING OUTPATIENT at all

with about a $3K deductible. Per diagnosis, if they can get away with it.

REALISTICALLY: NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING....She has enough pre existing conditions to keep her from getting anything in the private sector. No one would cover her except a large group plan, such as what John gets in the Senate.

Good thing she has bucks and doesn't really need it.

edited after I remembered the part about the pre-X

4. That's true the deductible would be almost the whole "credit"
Truly a God-awful idea. I think Obama should push this and HARD....

6. I used to process those things. They were cheaper and with lower deductibles
20 years ago and are increasingly harder to find.

If you could have seen some of the ungodly complicated bullshit I used to have to process you would be even angrier

3. Not to mention John McCain, with that giant cancerous lump on his face
I would like to see him get insurance at all, much less for $5000

5. Yeah but he is MediCare age right?
So he wouldn't be totally without government health care anyway (although he's had it all his life.)

12. Yes but there are plenty of people with similar health issues who would be left high and dry
And McCain, even given his own health issues, just doesn't give a shit. Or maybe he's just that clueless. I don't know which alternative is worse.

7. None. She'd be declined automatically.
I sell group and individual health insurance.

She would be a flatliner.

13. He actually SAID that, didn't he???
At one point before the big blow up? That they wanted to "open up the healthcare" industries like they did with banking?

14. yep, I had to go back and edit my post after I remembered all the pre ex she has
going on.

Outside of huge groups and Medicare, health insurance is a minefield.

you sell it, so you know this and I know you have to sell what is offered by the carriers.

I have processed the claims for it. If I had to choose between what is offered in small group and individual plans vs Medicare, Medicare would win hands down. I worked Medicare for 7 years.

8. I think that whatever change is made to health care should go for Federal employees.
We might get a fairer shake if Congress were acting on our behalf as well as theirs. Let Congress find their own insurance for $5000 per year. For me, my small company pas $24,000 per year insuring 3 people. The company will pay tax on $24K and we will get a $15K credit. I'm no Einstein but right off I can see that this is not going to be good.

11. ABSOLUTELY!!! That should be one of the terms of any proposed deal
Right? Anything that's good enough to impose on the American People is good enough for the Senators and congresscritters. Let them go shopping in the wonderful world of the American Private Health Care system.

15. $10,800 per year to insure me and my family
That's the sum of what I pay and what my company pays.

I work for a large U.S. company, and have decent, but not great insurance. We end up paying thousands more per year in deductibles, copays and coinsurance.

But, yeah, thanks for the $5000, McCain. I'm sure it will be a big help. :eyes:
