Isn't "Maverick" an observation you make about someone else's actions?
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 01:07 AM by jmondine
Both McCain and Palin now have declared, "I'm a maverick" in the debates.

Isn't that like walking up to a woman in a bar and saying, "Hi, I'm self confident, and not afraid to talk to women"?
I thought it was something to be demonstrated through your own words and actions, not declared about yourself.

They might as well have said, "Hi, America. I'm good at debates."

Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 01:38 AM by onager
In fact, I'd like to see McCain commercials using quotes from "Top Gun." Just to confuse the GOP gay-bashers:

I want somebody's butt, I want it now, I've had it!

I was invaded!

Got it, that's twice, I want some BUTTS!!!

Move your ass get up here! I'm engaged!

OK, Wood, I'm taking the lead.

You up for this one Maverick?

We're in his Jet Wash!

He's going vertical, then so am I!

Get your butts above the hard deck.

Hard deck my ass, we nailed that son of a bitch!

I'm not going to sit here and blow sunshine up your ass.

Splash that sucker, yeah!

'Goose whose butt did you kiss to get in here?'... 'The list is long but distinguished'

"You can be my wingman anytime".... "Bullshit, you can be mine"

12. Which is why I think McCain should be called "Koko the monkey" ...
... just like George Costanza when he was trying get people to start calling him T-Bone.

The whole Maverick thing is ridiculous; just like the "Straight Talk Express." It's all fiction.

What about when she told Katie Couric "I'm the fresh new face!" or something to that effect, I said the same thing, who would be like "I'm exciting and new!" Hello, it's like she's reading their PR strategies and blabbing them. She always makes me cringe.

Not an appealing thing for someone to declare. No surprise everytime Palin said the "m" word that the CNN uncommitted voters line would drop.

20. Sen. Russ Feingold is often called a maverick.
I would have to agree he is, a TRUE maverick. He only votes on principle, sometimes siding with the repugs. However, his "maverickness" is usually considered as something of a liability for his political career and I don't recall ever hearing him call himself one.

25. Yes, it loses it's meaning when they call themselves mavericks
It's like some calling them self beautiful all the time. The compliment isn't really meaningful if it's coming from yourself.

28. Apparently she and McCain didn't get the memo...
to be known as a Maverick, you actually have to do something Maverick-like...not just embroider it on a jacket. She reminds me of Seinfeld where George wants to have the nickname "T-Bone" and they call him Koko. In this case, she wants to be called "Maverick" but instead will be known as "bitch, PLEASE!"
