Cone pone on that moose burger, anybody?
I cannot hold it in any more. I didn't watch the debate against the backdrop of reading DU, so what I say might be repetitive. Sorry if that is the case....

My immediate reaction as I watched -- from the inception of the debate, from the first moment, I thought she was reading something. She habitually looked down in the same manner as she did in clips of her debates from campaigns in Alaska. We know she read from 3 x 5 cards in those debates. Watching her mannerisms showed that same maneuver. Obviously, she had no 3 x 5 cards. My instant reaction was that she was reading text messages, perhaps from a very small device. My question to you: would that have been possible?

That corn pone language, coupled with her purloining of the Reagan sales pitch -- wink, wink, smile, knife, was blatant. Couple that with her line, "There you go again, Joe" cemented my impression she was going for the Reagan approach. She would make the voters love her, substance or not. She is a rhinestone cowgirl...or not. Wave that hocus pocus political handkerchief and take another look.

Her habitual appearances using her baby as a political prop are disturbing. Compare her motherly instincts from those of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who went overboard at protecting her children's privacy from the voting public, and one is left with a disgusting taste of cone pone in one's mouth. Corn pone doesn't cut it, nor does the winking, when one is looking for answers to very difficult questions in a time of high crisis.

And using the debate stage in the same manner as one uses a runway in a beauty contest suggests it is all about presence to this contender. It's about the package, not the core. To hell with that. We have had eight years of the Texas cowboy. God protect me from the Miss America-wannabe chewing on a moose burger -- how many times did she mention her exotic Alaska? -- while spewing her answers to questions (those she did answer) with a corn pone seasoning.

How did our presidential political arena sink into this abyss?

Sam

2. Do you have any reaction to the possibility she was receiving
text message prompts? That is really eating away at me.

7. That's true but I watched this debate intently and all alone
I went into this with simply the intent of observing the techniques she used. I cannot believe she has the intellectual capacity to during the process of answering a question, back up and respond to a hit from the previous question. She did this a couple of times. I think she was prompted. What do you think?

10. Do you think she has the mental capacity to multi-task in a national
debate? How did she muddle through one answer while backing up suddenly to respond to an assertion in the previous answer. I don't she has the capacity to do this without being prompted. Thoughts?

15. well you know if it were a free flowing conversation
she'd be stumped. That clearly her words were memorized, not soulful. That she often changed the subject when the questions "did not compute" "error message" .com ..org. Holy cow!

16. Did you notice that when questioned about the credit crunch
she totally dodged it and reverted back to a previous answer about Wall Street? Political dodge ball is what she played all night.

I thought Biden was the epitome of what I would like to see in a Presidential candidate, so in that regard, he is perfect for Obama's second chair. Palin? Can't see it. I got to blink at that one!

18. He could not have made a better choice
Compare his decision-making ability to that of McCain. In McCain's mind, it is all about him. Win at all costs, same as Bush*. Anything he has to do to win the election - to hell with the Country. So what if he kicks the bucket while in office and she takes his chair. He won't have to suffer the earthy consequences....

Thanks for playing.

5. Any other points in this thread grab you, blubber lover?
She think she had any prompts up there on that stage?

6. Wouldn't call her speaking style corn pone
Maybe Aw shucks. She sounded like she could have stepped out of the movie Fargo.

9. She combined a myriad of cultural techniques
Fargo, yes. Hint of a southern accent at times? Definitely. Reach for the exotic beloved Alaska visuals. All slicked down with Texas tea. Something for everybody. And that was her recipe for her performance tonight.

Thank you for your response.

BTW, think she was prompted up there on that stage?

19. Okay, I am rethinking your Fargo analogy and I am visualizing
the corpse being fed head first into the wood chipper by one of the creepy villains. You win.

11. My feeling was that text was scrolling across her eyeglasses.
Yes, they can do that. The technology was invented several years ago.

12. Thanks for responding to my question, you are the first
I kind of knew the technology was available. Do you think she carried a device on stage? I personally think it would have been very easy to do, and as I said in my original thread, I think she was obviously reading something at hand level. I do not think they were her old 3 x 5 cards....
