She should have turned to him and said something to the effect of "We both know the difficulties in raising children, you as a single father after a devastating loss and myself as a mother to a special needs child...I don't think there is any disagreement that there needs to be a future left for our children."

However, THAT would have shown class. Something she doesn't have.
