Palin went for the winksy folksy thing.
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 09:50 PM by Erin Elizabeth
Unfortunately for her, she was really off in her pacing and while that's not something a lot of people would verbalize, it's something EVERYONE notices.

Her x-treme speed at the beginning, rattling off and repeating those talking points as fast as she could, was exhausting. I was talking to several undecided people via IM and phone and they ALL said they were exhausted by her in the first thirty to forty-five minutes.

But then when she would slow down, she'd go back to the incoherent sentences, the disjointed word salads, and after a while most of the people I talked to lost interest in even trying to figure out what she was saying.

It wasn't lost on anyone that she rarely ever addressed the actual question asked. It was almost as if Biden and Palin were having two separate debates, with Biden following the debate format and the moderator's questions and doing a really admirable job of staying on track and on point and with Palin deliberately going off-track as often as possible.

The winking at the camera was weird. The folksy cutesy style might have been better in a different, less formal format. It came off as what they call "trying too hard" to the people I was talking to. She overdid it on that.

Biden's pace was much better--measured, relaxed, knowledgable.

Obama-Biden's gonna win this, y'all. Keep working, but I feel more than ever this November is going to be a very happy one.

1. I am a woman and HATED the winking. It's not 'folksy'. It's flirting behavior. Period.

4. Yes. I take winking to mean "I don't really mean what I'm saying."
So I found it really jarring.

My husband thought it was so off-putting he couldn't even look at the TV after that. He only listened and could barely stand to do that because he feels her voice sounds like sand in your underpants feels.

2. I wanted to add--the fact-checking AFTER the debate
(tonight and tomorrow) is going to be BRUTAL for her. She fucked up a lot of stuff she said.

7. Yep.
And...and....and...and also...and also....and also....

I mean HOW many damn talking points could she cram in a 45 second speech? I think she set a land record. That's NOT what undecideds are looking for. She's memorized a lot of talking points, including a lot of things she ripped almost word for word from the Presidential debate last week, LOL!

5. Every time she went into that cute act, the favorability graph tanked.
The public saw through her though her base will love it.

This sealed the election for Obama. Biden rocked!

10. Yes, problem is, these debates aren't FOR the base of either side.
These debates are for the undecideds and I feel certain in saying most were put off by that act.

6. I really didn't care for that winking and talking like an idiot.
Why are we dumbing down the position of Vice President? This isn't a fucking counter job at McDonald's! It's really pissing me off.

12. Exactly. He really did.
I didn't want him to grin so broadly when she would outright lie about his or Obama's positions, but one time he looked at her like "O RLY??" and that cracked me up.

But you're right, he TOTALLY behaved and was very professional.

13. Another thing I forgot to mention--
I know the McCain ticket lost at least three votes while she spoke--three of the people I was talking to and IMing. One guy in particular has been edging closer and closer to Obama, but you know what did it for him?

Her CONSTANT reference to Alaska. He finally yelled "WE GET IT!! YOU'RE ELECTED QUEEN OF ALASKA!! NOW SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT IT!"

Hee.
